EDTWhen the Ravens drafted running back Kenneth Dixon in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft, many believed Baltimore was getting a steal. After all, Dixon’s production at the collegiate level was almost unheard of: 5,452 scrimmage yards, 5.6 YPC, and 87 combined touchdowns - all in four seasons at Louisiana Tech. Dixon began his NFL career with experience, upside, and talent, all of which suggested he’d be both an immediate and long-term fixture in the Ravens backfield. However, flash forward to present day (three years later), and this has yet to materialize. Dixon’s struggles to stay on the field have been well-documented. Since suiting up for 12 games his rookie season and showing flashes of the player we saw in college, it’s been a bumpy road for Dixon. He missed the entire 2017 season after being suspended for the first four games and then suffering a torn meniscus. Many believed Dixon wouldn’t make the 53-man roster heading into last season. He did Color Rush Jaylon Ferguson Jersey , however, but was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury in September. This almost certainly appeared to mark the end of Dixon’s career with the Ravens, until he was surprisngly activated off IR in the beginning of December. From there, Dixon put forth the best stretch of his young career. Over the final six games of the regular season, the 25-year old turned 60 carries into 333 rushing yards and two touchdowns, good for an impressive YPA of 5.6. Dixon was instrumental in spearheading a dominant rushing attack alongside Gus Edwards and Lamar Jackson. His performance against the Browns in the regular season finale was nothing short of impressive. Dixon was nearly unstoppable at times and ripped off several big chunk plays, rushing for a career-high 117 yards on just 12 carries. After emerging as an X-factor during the team’s playoff run, one would think Dixon earned himself a sizeable role heading into next season. However, after the Ravens signed Mark Ingram in free agency and drafted Justice Hill, things are in a bit of a tricky spot. Dixon’s talent and promise are unquestioned. Even as the Ravens are set to utilize multiple running backs and deploy a run-heavy scheme, though, Dixon’s exact fit in the backfield is murky.Ingram will almost surely see the majority of rushing attempts as the starter. It’s hard to envision Dixon slotting ahead of Edwards Jaylon Ferguson Baltimore Ravens Jersey , either, given the latter saw significantly more carries last season. That puts Dixon as the third RB on the depth chart, but even Hill could potentially see more playing time given his explosiveness and receiving chops. Dixon’s playing style is similar to that of Ingram and Edwards and barring any injuries or unforseen developments taking place, he’s not going to jump either of them in the pecking order. Dixon doesn’t offer much as a pass-catcher, so the question becomes just how much early-down work will he see as the #3 option in the backfield? Much like last year, some have begun floating around the possibility of Dixon not making the roster. It’s far too early in the offseason to begin jumping to conclusions but this scenario seems unlikely. So long as the Ravens seek to keep four running backs on the roster and Dixon doesn’t suffer an injury or suspension of some kind in the coming months, he should be safe. With that being said, however, the 2019-20 season is almost certainly shaping up to be a make-or-break one for Dixon. His skill set overlaps with other running backs on the roster and he’s entering the final year of his rookie contract. If there’s any chance of him sticking around long-term, Dixon will have to prove himself to be a consistent, reliable contributor. Based on how his career has played out thus far, banking on this happening seems like a risky proposition. Denver Broncos 13th-year nose tackle Domata Peko always has the ears of his young teammates White Jaylon Ferguson Jersey , especially this week with a trip to Baltimore coming up.The Ravens (1-1) are a team Peko faced 22 times while anchoring the Cincinnati Bengals defensive line from 2006-16."Baltimore is a tough place to play," said Peko, who's coming off a spectacular game against the Raiders on Sunday. "I played there 11 years in a row in the AFC North and it's a tough division. Kingsbury could be equally as excited to work with Rosen as he would be by the idea of selecting Murray at the top of the draft. He has chemistry with the sophomore quarterback and his role will only expand with the playmakers surrounding him. Hollywood is going to draw serious attention with his speed and agility, while Miles Boykin, Chris Moore and others will force cornerbacks to stay true in their coverage on the opposite side. Be sure to comment down below and share your thoughts! Trading back out of the first round A lot of fans may not be happy with this one, but we should all prepare ourselves for the very real possibility that the Ravens do not make a selection on day one. Depending on how the board plays out, this could actually end up being the smartest decision. Baltimore can likely trade back and acquire a second-round pick, which they currently don’t have, and an additional third or fourth rounder. In the past, Ozzie Newsome showed a willingness to trade back in the draft and load up on mid-round picks. Look for DeCosta to follow this strategy in his first draft calling the shots. Stocking up more picks gives the Ravens a better chance to further address their roster needs, so don’t be surprised if Baltimore ends up with more than just eight draft selections. Double dipping at multiple positions There are two definitive positions where the Ravens need to add pro-ready, starting-caliber talent in the draft: wide receiver and outside linebacker. The Ravens will almost certainly use at least two of their first three selections to draft a player at each of these positions, however, don’t be surprised if they end up picking multiple receivers and edge rushers. We saw the Ravens do this last year when they took two receivers Youth Trace McSorley Jersey , Jordan Lasley and Jaleel Scott, back-to-back. They also double dipped at tight end with Hayden Hurst in the first round and Mark Andrews in the third. In 2017, the Ravens selected two edge guys in Tim Williams and Tyus Bowser, both of which are expected to take big leaps this year. However, their performance thus far has inspired little confidence, which is a big reason why the Ravens will likely double dip at pass-rusher again in this year’s draft. We could also see this development play out with the interior offensive line positions: center and guard. Baltimore is looking to upgrade from and/or add some competition into the mix for these spots, currently fortified by Matt Skura, James Hurst, and Alex Lewis. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Ravens draft either a center or guard early and do so again in the later rounds. No tight ends, offensive tackles, or cornerbacks In every draft class since 2010, the Ravens have selected at least one tight end or offensive tackle. However, it’s hard to envision the Ravens using any of their selections on either position this weekend. Baltimore has invested early-round picks on tackles Ronnie Stanley and Orlando Brown Jr. in recent drafts, who appear to be the ideal long-term duo on the left and right side of the offensive line. Stanley is in-line for a contract extension soon but it’s hard to imagine a scenario in which the Ravens don’t lock him up. There’s decent depth behind them at the tackle position, too. The tight end depth chart consists of Mark Andrews White Brandon Williams Jersey , Hayden Hurst, and Nick Boyle, whom the Ravens just signed to a three-year contract extension in free agency. The position figures to be heavily featured in Greg Roman’s offensive scheme, but adding another tight end in the draft seems both redundant and unnecessary. The same applies for cornerback, the deepest position on the roster. With studs at the top in Marlon Humphrey, Brandon Carr, Jimmy Smith, and Tavon Young, the Ravens definitely don’t need a starter on the outside or in the slot. They’re fine on depth, too, with Anthony Averett, Maurice Canady, and Justin Bethel rounding out the depth chart. While the long-term futures of Carr and Smith are murky, the Ravens can afford to wait until next year to address that. Ravens snag a running back in the middle roundsOn the surface, the Ravens appear pretty set at the running back position with Mark Ingram Marquise Brown Baltimore Ravens Jersey , Gus Edwards, and Kenneth Dixon atop the depth chart. However, there’s definitely a missing element in the backfield, and head coach John Harbaugh alluded to when asked about the possibility of adding another running back at the NFL Winter Meetings. “I like the idea of adding a shifty, third-down, home-run hitter,” Harbaugh said. The current trio of backs on the roster are more downhill bruisers than the type of player Harbaugh is describing here. Adding a speedster to the depth chart will help diversify the rushing attack and complement the skill sets of Ingram and company. Baltimore surely won’t draft a guy like Josh Jacobs in the first round, but when scanning the draft board, there should be some good options in the third, fourth, and fifth rounds. Darrell Henderson (Memphis) and Justice Hill (Oklahoma St.) come to mind, should they make it out of the first two rounds.

It was bound to happen at some point this season and with the team off to an 0-3 start and veteran Sam Bradford not showing much promise, now was as good of a time as any. But the problems don’t figure to be automatically corrected with Rosen now in the starting lineup. Changes on both sides of the ball could still be made to help improve this team. For example, this past Sunday, Deone Bucannon and Haason Reddick — both former first round picks of the Cardinals — saw very little action with defensive snaps. Reddick had a mere 4 snaps, while Bucannon saw a whole one snap on defense. Honestly, it isn’t that surprising. We all saw the liability Bucannon was as a linebacker in this team’s new defense under Steve Wilks in week one against the Washington Redskins. But I don’t want to count Bucannon as a lost cause just yet. He is a talented and athletic player that has shown he belongs on an NFL field in the past. He’s a sure tackler that can make plays in space or in the hole. So, since we are trying new things and making adjustments to try and win ball games, why not try this crazy idea: put Bucannon back where he belongs — as a safety. Buc was always a misfit as a linebacker. The guy practically invented a whole new position as a “$ backer” when a rash of injuries necessitated his playing in the box full time. Bruce Arians and Todd Bowles were successful in masking his lack of size and strength and making him into a linebacker that was as quick as any out there going from sideline to sideline. He was a tackling machine, so to speak. But after some injuries and Bucannon almost being forced to put on more weight Byron Murphy Arizona Cardinals Jersey , he just doesn’t look like the same player anymore. Who knows the real reason we have seen this decline from him, but when you go from a starter playing essentially every snap to being one snap shy of a DNP on defense, it goes beyond just the defensive scheme. Shedding some of the unnecessary muscle and weight that Bucannon has put on the past couple of years would be a great start. Let him lean out again, allowing him to move faster and play laterally like he once did. He may get eaten alive by an offensive lineman from time to time, but it’s not like all the weight he has added has really changed that. The next move I would make would be to change him back to his original position. I was never a fan of making him a linebacker full time to begin with. Tre Boston, after being hailed as a steal when the Cardinals signed him this off-season, hasn’t done much to impress me outside of a diving interception against the Bears. Bucannon may present an immediate upgrade over Boston and form a dangerous safety trio between him, Antoine Bethea and rising star Budda Baker. With a thinner frame and less time around the line of scrimmage, I truly believe we could see a revitalized Bucannon. And at this point Byron Murphy Jersey , what do you really have to lose?
