Thirty-three years to the day after the Redskins lost quarterback Joe Theismann to a broken leg Dwayne Haskins Jersey White , Alex Smith’s season ended on an eerily similar injury in Washington’s 23-21 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday.Smith broke his right tibia and fibula on a sack by Kareem Jackson midway through the third quarter and will require surgery. The veteran quarterback’s leg turned the wrong way, much the way Theismann’s did when he was sacked by Lawrence Taylor on a Monday night game in 1985. Theismann’s injury ended his career.“I know it was very painful for him and heartbreaking for a lot of people,” Redskins coach Jay Gruden said. “He’s a great guy and hard worker and one of the key leaders on this football team. These things happen in pro football, unfortunately. Just hate to see them happen with a guy like Alex.”Theismann attended the game and said he turned away after Smith went down.“It brought back vivid memories,” Theismann said.Smith wasn’t the only quarterback hurt during Sunday’s early games. The Titans lost quarterback Marcus Mariota in the final minute of the first half of their blowout loss to the Colts when he reinjured his right elbow. The Texans lost both of their starting guards against Washington — Zach Fulton to a shoulder injury on the first drive and Senio Kelemete to an ankle injury in the second quarter. For the Redskins, defensive lineman Jonathan Allen was evaluated for a concussion but returned. The Detroit Lions also suffered a blow on offense when rookie running back Kerryon Johnson hurt his left knee against the Carolina Panthers. He left in the third quarter and didn’t return after running for 87 yards on 15 carries.Panthers quarterback Cam Newton suffered an apparent ankle injury against the Lions. He left briefly in the third quarter but returned.Ravens offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley, who’s had ankle issues lately, limped off the field twice against the Bengals. In the Giants‘ win over the Buccaneers, New York defensive lineman Kerry Wynn left in the second half with a concussion. Tampa Bay tight end O.J. Howard left in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury.Jaguars right guard A.J. Cann injured a hamstring in Jacksonville’s loss to the Steelers.7<button class="view-gallery">View Gallery</button> Gallery:Texans make it seven straight with 23-21 win over RedskinsAP | © The Associated Press. All rights reserved ASHBURN, Va. (AP)The Christmas-colored gift bags with Nikes and more filled the lockers of each offensive lineman. It was Kirk Cousins’ way of saying thank you, a better parting gift than his three interceptions in what could be his final game with the Washington Redskins that exacerbated the debate about whether they should keep him or sign him long term. Now the Redskins are in the same spot as they were a year ago, with coach Jay Gruden’s job safe but the same uncertainty about Cousins, who has played the past two seasons on the franchise tag and could be ticketed for another one-year deal or a departure that would create even more questions. ”It is the same old story, but now it’s more real than ever and everybody’s going to do whatever they can right now to try to dissect the situation,” linebacker Will Compton said Monday on locker cleanout day. ”It’s all going to be, `Should they pay him? Should they not pay him? Is he going to come back? Does he want to come back?”’ Yes, it is. Washington went 9-7, 8-7-1 and 7-9 in Cousins’ three seasons as its starting quarterback with this past season getting derailed by several key injuries. Asked Tuesday to evaluate Cousins’ 2017, Gruden said, ”When you’re 7-9, it’s hard to say, `Wow, this guy really was outstanding,”’ then added: ”Kirk had his flashes where he was really good.” As for moving forward, the coach said: ”Whether he’s here or not, we have to figure out ways that we’re going to make this team better.” Cousins became the first QB in franchise history to start 16 games in each of three consecutive seasons and threw for 4,000 yards in all of them, with 81 touchdowns and 36 interceptions, but enough bad games and decisions to fuel the doubters and leave the front office unwilling to commit to what could be a bigger deal than what the Oakland Raiders gave Derek Carr. ”He’s an amazing quarterback,” right tackle Morgan Moses said. ”He’s an elite quarterback in my eyes. He has the smarts, he has the tools, he gets the ball out of his hands fast, he’s able to read defenses – all the things you ask a quarterback to do in the NFL.” If Cousins does return, he will continue to work with quarterbacks coach Kevin O’Connell. Gruden announced Tuesday that O’Connell will be back, adding the title of passing game coordinator. Cousins on Sunday said, ”I’ll use all the time that I can” to make a decision about his future. The 29-year-old said he knows how to handle going year-to-year, while Gruden said getting stability at quarterback is central to the organization’s next few steps. ”If you got (a quarterback), you would like to keep one, but you want to make that decision pretty soon or Kirk will also, so it’s not totally up to us, you know?” Gruden said. ”Kirk’s got to buy in, also.” Cousins held things together when the Redskins dealt with season-ending injuries to running backs Chris Thompson and Rob Kelley Womens Bryce Love Jersey , tight end Jordan Reed, receiver Terrelle Pryor and offensive linemen Trent Williams, Shawn Lauvao and Spencer Long. Teammates have spent days and weeks saying they want him back while fully conceding they have no idea what’s going to go down. ”Whatever happens, we’ve got to just roll with it and be ready for whatever,” receiver Jamison Crowder said. ”I think it would definitely be a bonus – a good thing – to have him back, especially with the chemistry that we all have within the offense. Hopefully he can come back.” Here’s some things to watch with the Redskins: INJURY FALLOUT: The Redskins finished the season with more than a dozen regulars on injured reserve. Washington never got to see a chance how good it could be with a full season from Thompson, Kelley, Reed, Williams, Pryor, rookie defensive lineman Jonathan Allen, linebackers Compton and Mason Foster and others. ”Injuries happen, but I didn’t think guys here took care of their bodies personally,” Swearinger said. Swearinger intends to keep teammates on that, though president Bruce Allen, senior vice president of player personnel Doug Williams and Gruden could also make roster choices based on who could stay healthy. Asked about keeping the roster healthier next season, Gruden said: ”I don’t think there’s any doubt that’s something we have to take a close look at.” SKILL POSITIONING: After seven running backs carried the ball in 2017, there’s no clarity on who will be the starter in 2018. The same goes at receiver in the post DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon era after Crowder and Ryan Grant were Cousins’ favorite targets. Maybe the next step belongs to 2016 first-round pick Josh Doctson, who followed an injury-plagued rookie season by leading the Redskins with six touchdown catches. ”I feel like he showed us a little glimpse of his talent,” Crowder said. ”He just kind of got his feet wet this year. I know next year he’ll come back, he’s going to be one of the top receivers in this league.” NORMAN’S STAND: When cornerback Josh Norman signed a $75 million, five-year contract, he wanted to be part of the same success that he was with the Carolina Panthers. Instead, he lamented that Redskins players ”got trash bags” instead of travel bags on New Year’s Day and vowed to help make things better. ”Just got to go back to the drawing board,” Norman said. ”Obviously it’s very, very disappointing. … Looking forward to 2018 and preparing a better approach.” YOUTH: Injuries, particularly on defense, gave the Redskins a good look at young players such as second-year defensive linemen Matt Ioannidis and Anthony Lanier, third-year receiver turned cornerback Quinton Dunbar and rookie defensive backs Fabian Moreau and Montae Nicholson. of a defense that needs to improve. ”I felt like we took some strides up front this year, especially with our defensive line play – Matt Ioannidis, Lanier, Jonathan Allen,” linebacker Ryan Kerrigan said. ”All those guys played big roles for us. You look at Matt and Anthony, Jon, those guys are young and feel like can be really, really productive players in this league.” HALL’S DECISION: Safety DeAngelo Hall is considering retirement at age 34 after 14 NFL seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, Oakland Raiders and Redskins. Hall might want to get into coaching, but isn’t closing the door on keeping his playing career going. ”At some point, you know,” Hall said. ”I don’t know yet, but I’m feeling like I’m getting close to knowing.” —

The NFL Competition Committee unveiled proposed changes to the way replay reviews are implemented on Thursday and they’re expected to be voted on at next week’s league meetings. There are two proposals. One would allow for review of pass interference penalties while the other covers pass interference T. J. Watt Jersey White , roughing the passer and unnecessary contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture. Neither would allow for replay to look at a missed call like the one from the NFC Championship Game.Passing a rule change would require votes from 24 of the league’s 32 teams. Steelers owner Art Rooney II indicated his team would not be a yes vote when it comes time to pick sides.“I’m not really excited to have replay expanded, and we’ll approach it with that in mind,” Rooney said.Rooney did say he would be open to a proposal for adding a “sky judge” to the officiating crew, but was not in favor of an eighth on-field official. There is no proposal of that nature at the moment and Falcons president/Competition Committee chairman Rich McKay said there was no support for the idea when the committee met to discuss potential changes. Two teams headed for January football, the Panthers and Steelers, get to test their mettle on Thursday night. It should be a good one in prime time.Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin, who’s 1-1 in Super Bowls, isn’t admitting any postseason thoughts are in the minds of his players or himself. But he has to like how the Steelers have performed in four straight victories.“I’m not trying to look for specific areas Terrell Edmunds Jersey White , I just try to challenge these guys to get better every day,” Tomlin says.“That’s what we’re focused on. I think that if we do that daily that will give us a chance to produce consistent performances that are on the rise. Not only in the second quarter (of the season) but as we continue through this journey.”That journey has Carolina (6-2), ranked fifth in the AP Pro32, at No. 7 Pittsburgh. The Steelers (5-2-1) are a 5½-point favorite in the week’s best matchup. The Panthers have won three straight and five of six. They are particularly strong running the ball, though Pittsburgh is stingy in that area on defense.Carolina trails New Orleans by one game in the NFC South and leads the wild-card chase. On Wednesday (or soon thereafter) Bo Jackson Jersey , the Raiders and left tackle Trent Brown will execute a four-year, $66 million contract, with $36.75 million fully guaranteed. Although the terms are subject to change, here’s a look at how the deal is expected to be constructed, once it’s signed. In lieu of a signing bonus, Brown will receive a $10 million roster bonus and a $5 million base salary in 2019, along with a $250,000 workout bonus. Next year, Brown will receive a fully-guaranteed base salary of $21.25 million, along with another $250,000 roster bonus. The deal also consists of base salaries of $13.75 million in 2021 and $15 million in 2022, along with $250,000 workout bonus each year. The cap numbers will be $15.25 million in 2019, $21.5 million in 2020, $14 million in 2021, and $15.25 million in 2022.Again, the deal won’t be final until it’s signed, and Brown or the Raiders can (in theory) choose not to proceed. Ryan Switzer is entering his third season and already he has played for three teams. The receiver hopes he has found a home in Pittsburgh after a brief stop in Dallas and an even more brief stint in Oakland. The Cowboys drafted Switzer in the fourth round in 2017. Dallas used him primarily as a return specialist, with Switzer seeing only 92 offensive snaps and catching but six passes for 41 yards as a rookie. The Cowboys shipped him to Oakland before last offseason, reuniting him with special teams coach Rich Bisaccia. Switzer https://www.raiderslockerroom.com/authentic-antonio-brown-jersey , though, lasted only four months with the Raiders before they dealt him to the Steelers the week of the final preseason game.Despite his late arrival to Pittsburgh, Switzer caught 36 passes for 253 yards and a touchdown, while also returning punts and kickoffs last season. “I didn’t surprise myself, but I am sure I surprised others,” Switzer said, via Teresa Varley of the team website. “There was a stigma that was created before I got here that I was just a return guy. It was hard for me because I spent four years in college doing so many things on the offensive side of the ball. A new environment can be good for everybody. To be around an organization that believed in me, a coaching staff that believed in me, and players that believed in me. That was the biggest thing. They allowed me to spread my wings, be who I am.“I always knew how to play the receiver position. I think that got lost last year because of a stigma that was they put on me elsewhere as being just a return specialist guy. The Steelers who evaluated me coming out of the draft, they knew the production I had in college. For them to trust that, even though I wasn’t used like that in Dallas, meant a lot. Tomlin made sure I knew that I wasn’t just here to be a return guy. Throughout the year I grew because of the guys that were around me, the guys I was able to watch. Then I grew because of Ben [Roethlisberger]. He took time with me individually to make sure I was on the same page with him. He took the time to make sure we knew about each other, learned about other, made sure I knew what he wanted, and he knew how I saw things.”With a full offseason with the Steelers, Switzer expects to produce even more in 2019.

ASHBURN Womens Dwayne Haskins Jersey , Va. (AP) — Even after Dak Prescott rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown last week, the Washington Redskins aren’t zeroing in on stopping the Dallas Cowboys quarterback.“We don’t really care about him running,” linebacker Zach Brown said.“Him running is not really our concern.”Their concern is Ezekiel Elliott, the Cowboys’ top running back who’s coming off 106 yards and a score against Jacksonville. After seeing Cam Newton with Carolina, the Redskins are prepared for Prescott, but after ranking last in the league in run defense last season — including allowing 351 yards in two games against Dallas — the Redskins know it all starts with containing Elliott.“Definitely with their O-line, their running game is something that definitely jumps off on film,” linebacker Mason Foster said. “You don’t want to start thinking about Cam Newton or thinking about Dak Prescott so much that you’re letting Zeke and (Panthers running back Christian) McCaffrey run free because those are the guys who really can hurt you.”Amid plenty of inconsistency , Washington has not allowed an opponent to rush for more than 104 yards in a game so far this year. Newton was the Panthers’ leading rusher when they had just 81 yards on the ground.“One of our things is trying to make a team one-dimensional because we know if you put it in the air, you eventually might make a mistake,” Brown said. “The run is just something we’ve got to make sure we stop. If a team can run the ball on you, they can kind of control the game. So we’ve got to make sure they’re not running that ball on us.”The big difference for the Redskins this season is the addition of first-round pick Daron Payne and the return of a healthy Jonathan Allen on the defensive line. The Alabama products plus young defensive linemen Matt Ioannidis and Tim Settle finally give Washington the muscle up front to handle prolific running attacks.“Having Jon Allen back Dwayne Haskins Jersey White , Ioannidis fully healthy, Ryan (Kerrigan) — all these guys are physical up front, closing gaps,” Foster said. “Guys are going to bust runs or guys are going to make plays, but it’s about limiting those plays and making them earn it.”The Cowboys’ diverse run schemes present what Redskins coach Jay Gruden called a big challenge for Payne, Allen and the young defensive linemen. But those guys think they’re plenty prepared to handle the dual-threat ground game of Elliott and Prescott.“Just hit them in the mouth, get the O-line going backwards, win the line of scrimmage,” Settle said Wednesday. “They got to block us. We don’t have to worry about them. They got to stop us from accomplishing what we want to accomplish. I feel like the more focused we are, the more dominant we play.”No one is calling the Redskins’ defense dominant quite yet, but the organization zeroed in on Payne with the concept of him being a difference-maker against the run and the pass. Elliott running all over them contributed to the decision to take Payne 13th overall.“When you have a weakness, you’ve got to address it Dwayne Haskins Jersey ,” Gruden said. “Daron Payne was, we thought, the best run-stopper — him and Vita Vea — in the draft and we were lucky to get him. Obviously we paid it huge consideration for adding a player of that caliber.”Payne has been every bit of what coaches expected, but he can’t stop Elliott by himself. Safety D.J. Swearinger said defenders are thinking, “We’ve got to find ways to stop 21” and let the rest of Dallas’ offense beat them. That’s what Gruden wants to hear, putting the emphasis on gang-tackling a running back who doesn’t go down easily.“These one-on-one tackles against Zeke are easier said than done,” Gruden said. “Great backs can make the unblocked player miss or run through them for another 5 or 6 yards, and that’s what he’s done in his career. … There’s always going to be a free guy coming, and that guy has got to make his presence felt and make that tackle or at least hold him up for when other guys can get off blocks and make the tackle.”NOTES: WR Jamison Crowder (ankle), RB Adrian Peterson (shoulder/ankle/knee), WR Paul Richardson (shoulder/knee), LG Shawn Lauvao (calf) Wes Martin Jersey , RG Brandon Scherff (knee), CB Danny Johnson (broken right forearm) and S Troy Apke (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday. Gruden said Crowder is the most iffy to play against Dallas. … The Redskins plan to hold a moment of silence for longtime reporter Rich Tandler, who died unexpectedly Tuesday at age 63. A team spokesman says a plaque will be placed at Tandler’s seat in the press box at FedEx Field, which will remain empty. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Quinton Dunbar are active for Washington on Thanksgiving against Dallas after missing multiple games with injuries.Williams missed three straight games with a dislocated right thumb, while Dunbar was sidelined four of the previous five games with nerve damage as part of a shin injury.Cowboys defensive end Taco Charlton will miss his third straight game with a shoulder injury. Defensive tackle Daniel Ross is available after two games with a calf injury. Ross was active for the first game at Philadelphia, but didn’t play when the injury came up before the game.Redskins running back Chris Thompson had already been declared out for the sixth time in seven games because of a rib injury. Receiver Jamison Crowder is out for the seventh straight game with an ankle injury.Dallas had already ruled out five players: tight end Geoff Swaim (broken wrist), linebacker Sean Lee (hamstring), guard Adam Redmond (concussion), defensive lineman David Irving (ankle) and receiver Tavon Austin (groin).

Last weekend saw the latter come to pass, so with those new players in house, we take a look at how they could affect the team’s draft chart in the coming months and perhaps into the season.Raiders projected depth chart with draft picksOffenseFirst teamSecond teamThird teamBeyondOffenseFirst teamSecond teamThird teamBeyondThere is a lot to work out with many of these positions.Backup quarterback would figure to favor Mike Glennon mainly because he was paid the most. But that’s no guarantee he will be the last man standing come September.First round rookie Josh Jacobs figures to split carries with Isaiah Crowell, Jalen Richard will see time as the receiver out of the backfield and Chris Warren III will get another shot to make the roster as the big bruising short yardage back.Darren Waller and Lee Smith are the favorites for the top two tight end spots with Luke Willson and rookie Foster Moreau primarily battling for the backup reps. Derek Carrier is on notice. We know who the starting tackles and guards are, but it is uncertain as of now on which side any of them will lineup. We’ll hopefully learn that come OTA’s.Arden Key figures to move to situational pass rusher and he will try to hold off rookie Maxx Crosby, who may take a while to develop.Safety has a lot of options and variables. Joyner will play nickel corner and safety, Karl Joseph can play either safety spot, some believe rookie first round pick Johnathan Abram is here to replace Joseph, but they could very easily both start — Abram as strong safety, and Joseph at free safety. Should the team trade Joseph, it opens it up for Erik Harris to start, but we’ll cross that bridge if we come to it.Follow @LeviDamien NAPA, Calif. (AP) — Antonio Brown celebrated his first training camp with the Oakland Raiders by taking a hot air balloon ride over the Napa Valley.Coach Jon Gruden thought it was tame by the flamboyant wide receiver’s standards.“I expected a little bit more than a hot air balloon,” Gruden said Friday. “I thought he might jump out of an airplane and parachute here himself. He’s going to add a lot of life to this organization at a position where we need some explosive plays.”Brown actually arrived late Thursday while the remaining veterans checked in Friday, three days after rookies showed up to get a head start on camp. But the 31-year-old was placed on the non-football injury list and will not be on the field for the team’s first practice Saturday. The Raiders did not specify what Browns’ injury was.The Raiders will spend a little more than three weeks at the picturesque facility preparing for their final season in Oakland ahead of their move to Las Vegas in 2020.Entering the second year of his second stint with the Raiders, Gruden said his team has a lot to accomplish to improve upon a 4-12 finish in 2018.“We are very confident that we’ve taken some really good steps in building our football team,” Gruden said. “We need some veterans to come through and we need some young guys to come through. We feel like we’ve gotten faster, we feel like we’ve gotten bigger. We’ve got a lot to prove, that’s for sure.”The Raiders are banking on a nucleus of veterans and a large group of younger players led by three first-round picks in this year’s draft: defensive end Clelin Ferrell, running back Josh Jacobs and safety Johnathan Abram.“You see the fact that not only did they show up in shape Bo Jackson Jersey White , they also showed up (and) had their heads in the frikkin books,” general manager Mike Mayock said. The Raiders have a list of issues to address in the coming weeks. Richie Incognito’s two-game suspension has left a void at left guard; there could be as many as three new starters in the secondary; and the team made a bevy of changes around quarterback Derek Carr.“We’ve got a lot of change around him, hopefully for the better,” Gruden said. “He has done a great job not only with the system, he’s done a great job leading the group. He’s clearly established himself as not only an excellent quarterback but a premier leader on this team.”A lot of attention will be focused on Carr’s relationship with Brown, the colorful, four-time All-Pro receiver whose finish in Pittsburgh was punctuated by a feud with Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.“I expect a lot more drama from number 84, I really do,” Gruden said. “I told Antonio, ‘Try not to yell at Derek, yell at me when you have a problem.’ Then he started yelling at me. I said, ‘Don’t yell at me, yell at (Greg) Olson, he’s the offensive coordinator.'”wandering the halls of the Marriott Hotel on the eve of the Raiders’ first training camp practice Saturday. HBO’s ‘Hard Knocks’ is chronicling the team throughout camp, meaning extra cameras and people on the field and in meeting rooms.“Jon and I are kind of old school, and the reason you go away to training camp is to get away from all the distractions, get together, bond, learn your assignments, no distractions, no intrusions,” Mayock said. “Hard Knocks is an intrusion but it was handed to us. So it’s up to us to deal with it and I think we’re dealing with it in a professional way.”The Raiders don’t have a full squad in camp. Left guard Denzelle Good will begin the year on the physically unable to perform list after undergoing lower back surgery five weeks ago. Fullback Keith Smith joined Brown on the non-football injury list with a knee injury he suffered working out in the offseason.

They put the Raiders at number 28, or in other words, the fifth worst roster in the NFL. It’s important to note that along with the Raiders key additions, they also have key losses. Pro Bowl tight end Jared Cook and former All Pro guard Kelechi Osemele chief among them. Those losses turned previous strengths into weaknesses. And as PFF notes, the linebacking corps is still quite suspect. The four teams considered worse than the Raiders were the Bills, Dolphins Antonio Brown Jersey White , Jets, and Cardinals. That means three AFC East teams among the worst and the other one (the Patriots) was ranked the best.As for the AFC West, it stacks up this way:6. Chargers7. Chiefs22. Broncos28. The biggest being lack of talent. But youth and inexperience in the new scheme under defensive coordinator, Paul Guenther was also a major factor. Much of that was caused by high turnover.“It was a tough season, obviously,” said second year defensive tackle Maurice Hurst. “We had a lot of bodies coming in and out of our locker room and it can be extremely tough to put in new defenses and get guys that come in and have to play after sitting on the couch.”One of the phrases you often hear thrown around by successful teams is “chemistry.”It is an essential component of championship teams. That was clearly lacking with the 2018 Raiders, not only on the defense.“You don’t grow chemistry, you don’t trust one another, so there wasn’t that trust factor that we are starting to develop.”The defense which has not ranked better than 20th overall in points allowed since Derek Carr’s rookie year in 2014 fell to historic lows last season. However Bo Jackson Jersey White , they have some reason to feel they will be improved this season. The talent received a jolt with a defensive heavy rookie class including three picks in the top 40 along the addition of veterans Lamarcus Joyner, Vontaze Burfict, and Brandon Marshall. But adding veterans and rookies isn’t enough.“We had some older guys and it was great to have the opportunity to learn from them, but now it’s our time to take it over and start to develop our own identity,” Hurst continued. “, is to develop an identity, and I think that’s what we are going to try and accomplish early on and just set a tone and keep it rolling throughout the season.”More important than talent on paper is the expectation that second year players Maurice Hurst, Arden Key, and P.J. Hall will make a big leap in year two and returning players finding their stride in the defensive scheme. This team will live and die by their development.Editor’s note: Levi Damien contributed to this article.

No Broncos’ defender will benefit more from the switch to Fangio’s Defense than safety Justin Simmons." Denver Broncos Roster2019 Broncos roster review: Safety Justin SimmonsNew Royce Freeman Jersey ,29commentsNo Broncos’ defender will benefit more from the switch to Fangio’s Defense than safety Justin Simmons. MDTDrafted in the third round of the 2016 draft, Justin Simmons had an impressive rookie season under then-defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. Simmons never really materialized into the superior safety we all hoped when Joe Woods took over the defense under new head coach Vance Joseph in 2017. optimistic that he’ll benefit from the Vic Fangio defense as much or more than any other member of the 2019 Denver Broncos. The goodWatching Simmons’ 2018 tape, I was immediately struck by the sheer variety of his assignments from down to down. On any given play, he could line up as a deep safety in a single or two high shell, or play in the box, or even line up in the slot. It seems simple on the surface, but each of those carries significantly different keys and responsibilities. Wherever he lined up, Simmons shined as a run defender last year. Most defensive backs aren’t looking to mix it up in the muck with the hogs, but that isn’t Simmons. He stood out as a force player who would work to constrict alleys and reroute the ball back to his help inside, using his long arms to keep blockers off his body. Coming downhill from single or two high, he also maintained good angles to the ball carrier and showed he could consistently contribute as a tackler, even against bigger backs. Plays like this aren’t flashy until the defensive player fails to hem in a ball carrier. When Simmons played against the pass, he excelled playing the robber. From there, his range and anticipation really flashed. He showed off his route recognition, ball skills, and athleticism to squeeze off receivers when he didn’t have to play over the top or mirror in single coverage. Simmons also looked reliable in trail technique playing out of the slot and could stay on a receiver’s hip out into the route. In fact, Simmons was far and away the best safety in man coverage last year. The fourth-year safety also has the kind of straight line speed and range to be an effective player in deep zone or bailing out from close to the line of scrimmage. It’s a shame the Joseph Broncos didn’t ask Simmons to do this more often. The badThe biggest problem Simmons has as a football player is something he’ll have trouble ever completely fixing - he’s a gazelle. His frame and long legs leads to some problems for him changing directions suddenly or stopping on a dime. This issue presents itself most often when Simmons is lined up in coverage on a single receiver. It also hurts his deep range and causes him to overplay some tackles because he overruns the ball before he’s able to get his weight under him. Double moves were a huge issue for Simmons in coverage. Against the run John Elway Jersey , Simmons’ lighter frame also creates some issues. He’ll give ground to blockers as he works to shed them and can give up yards after contact to the bigger backs he tackles. He’s also more of a dart-and-dodge kind of blitzer than a defender who will go through a blocker to impact the quarterback. In coverage, he can be boxed out by bigger receivers.Simmons overplays Locket’s angle here and can’t shift back to recover. QuotableDuring OTAs, Simmons expressed his genuine excitement to be part of the Vic Fangio experiment.Justin Simmons’ roster status with the BroncosOne thing that becomes painfully apparent is how miscast Simmons was in the Vance Joseph defense. The Broncos utilized man coverage more than any team but New England in 2018 and Simmons was routinely asked to cover a slot or tight end. This exposed his biggest weakness and leaned away from his strengths as a player. He was also asked to blitz quite regularly, which is a poor use of his skill set. Vic Fangio’s system will provide Simmons with more opportunities to play as a deep safety or work out of the a robber role with help over the top. This should play off his strengths and hide the weaker parts of his game far more effectively. If he can stay healthy, there’s plenty of reason to believe that 2019 will be Simmons’ best in the NFL. Simmons beating a block by Chiefs’ Center Mitch Morse to make a tackle. A strong showing in the AAF with the San Antonio Commanders led the Denver Broncos to sign cornerback De’Vante Bausby earlier this offseason after the short-lived league went defunct.Broncos head coach Vic Fangio has familiarity with Bausby as well as he played under Fangio for parts of two seasons in 2015 and 2016 while Fangio was the Bears defensive coordinator. But that familiarity didn’t keep Fangio from delivering a verbal kick-to-the-backside to Bausby on Monday.Via Nick Jhabvala of TheAthletic.com, Fangio said he wants to see more out of Bausby on the field.“I think there’s been a time or two in Phase 2 where he’s let the back-to-back season, albeit shortened, give him a reason to think he’s tired, too, where he shouldn’t do that,” head coach Vic Fangio said, per The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala. “He’s got to overcome that. He’s got to overcome being his own worst enemy and show the player that he can be.”Bausby had a league-high four interceptions in eight games played for the Commanders before the league collapsed. And even though current workouts are expressly “voluntary,” they are less so for players at the back-end of offseason rosters trying to make an impression. Even if Bausby is a bit worn down from the two months of football he played earlier this spring, to make his own mark on the Broncos.Bausby has spent time with the Bears, Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles since entering the league as an undrafted free agent signing with the Chiefs out of Pittsburg State in 2015. He played four games with the Bears in 2016 and six with the Eagles in 2018. He made one start last season.Bausby has 26 career tackles.

A disappointing outcome for Washington nevertheless entailed another milestone for the running back who was signed in late August. With 119 rushing yards in 26 tries during Saturday’s loss at Tennessee Womens Dwayne Haskins Jersey , Adrian Peterson has leapfrogged Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson on the all-time rushing list. Peterson, now No. 8, has 13,318 career yards; Dickerson has 13,259.Peterson has said he plans to play for three or four more years. With 345 more yards, Peterson will surpass Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis for No. 7. A full 23 yards later, Peterson will pass Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson. With 417 more after that, Peterson will skip past Hall of Famer Curtis Martin for the fifth spot on the career list.Peterson needs 5,037 to catch Emmitt Smith at the top of the all-time list, and Peterson has said on multiple occasions that he still holds out hope for setting that record. For the year, Peterson has racked up 1,000 yards, the eighth four-figure season of his career. He’s 13th player in history to have two or more 1,000-yard seasons between the age of 30-39. The final week of mock drafts!"We’re only 5 days away from the draft, and lying season is in full effect. We still have no idea what the Arizona Cardinals are going to end up doing with the 1st overall pick. Draft Kyler Murray and trade Josh Rosen, trade down for a huge draft haul, or pick someone else all together. That will have a ripple affect on the rest of the draft, and what the Redskins decide to do this year.Missouri QB Drew Lock, Duke QB Daniel Jones, and Ohio State Dwayne Haskins are still popular options for the Redskins if they don’t trade for Rosen. But there is a new favorite in the mix for their first overall pick. WR D.K. Metcalf is the overwhelming non-QB favorite this week for various reasons. A lot of people are giving projected new QB Josh Rosen a big target. Most people just recognize that the Redskins WR corps is...not good. The other positions that keep getting drafted are inside and outside linebacker. Getting an edge rusher in the 1st round this year is a pretty popular option among Redskins fans, and there is a lot of talent at the top this year. The Redskins have more options than ever in this week’s roundup with 4 OLBs being mocked to Washington. Devin Bush is the lone ILB this week.Should the Redskins still draft a QB in the 1st round? Even in his 20th NFL season and 18th as the opening-day starter at quarterback for the New England Patriots James Conner Jersey White , Tom Brady is still awed by the responsibility he bears."I think it's a great privilege when a team trusts you to be the quarterback and they put the ball in your hands," Brady said Wednesday. "It's a great show of trust that they have in you, and I think you have to earn it every day. With that trust comes a lot of responsibility, and that's a big responsibility I take with me."Brady will begin another quest to make NFL history Sunday night at home when the Super Bowl champions entertain the Pittsburgh Steelers in the regular-season opener. If Brady starts all 16 games for the Patriots this year, he would be the first NFL quarterback to do so at 42 years of age."I love being available to the team," he said. "That's been something I feel like is a very important part of my job. I can't help the team if I'm not out there, and I work pretty hard to make sure I am. So many great players have played this game, and to still be doing it is something I treasure."In an expansive news conference at Gillette Stadium, Brady touched upon several nostalgic topics, including his transition from a young player learning the ropes to the veteran that guided younger players in a similar manner."I was a young player once Womens Jerome Bettis Jersey , too, and I had a lot of older players that I worked with," he said. "I had some great mentors, people that really taught me how to play the position. It was great at a young age to have John Friesz and Drew (Bledsoe), and then to have Damon Huard, and Vinny (Testaverde) and to have Doug (Flutie). And then all of a sudden it flipped, and it went from Matt Cassel to Brian (Hoyer) to Jimmy (Garoppolo) . I played with so many great guys over the years."He also said he knows the past will have no bearing upon the outcome of his meeting with the Steelers, against whom he is 11-3, including three playoff wins. But the last matchup was a 17-10 New England loss at Heinz Field on Dec. 16."We've had a great rivalry against those guys and have played a lot of meaningful games," Brady said. "We played at their stadium quite a bit the last few years Jerome Bettis Jersey , so it's good to get them here."There have been significant changes in the offense Brady will command Sunday. In addition to the retirement of star tight end Rob Gronkowski, Brady will have two new starters along the offensive line in left tackle Isaiah Wynn and center Ted Karras, replacing free-agency departure Trent Brown and the injured David Andrews, respectively. The Patriots have also rebuilt the receiving corps, but Brady has had minimal preseason practice time with Josh Gordon, recently reinstated from a suspension, and Demaryius Thomas, recovering from an Achilles tendon injury. Super Bowl MVP Julian Edelman also missed most of training camp with a broken thumb."It's a challenging thing, and that's why it's not always as fluid as you would hope it to be," Brady said. "We're going to try to work as hard as we can James Conner Jersey , as we always do. I don't think this team ever feels like we're a finished product. I don't think we finish many practices and coach Belichick says, 'Man, we got this all figured out.'" We take a look at the scouting reports written about the Steelers last two picks of the draft earlier in the offseason"With their final two selections of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers added Akron linebacker Ulysees Gilbert III and LSU offensive lineman Derwin Gray, two players who may have a better chance of make the final roster than their draft position would suggest. When reading the scouting reports written about them ahead of the draft, the experts appear to see two players who could yet become solid contributors at the NFL level if they can improve the noted deficiencies in their game. And while a strong training camp in Latrobe could possibly see them on the 53-man roster come opening day, the practice squad is their more likely destination. Ulysees Gilbert III, AkronLance Zierlein, NFL.com: Matt Miller, Bleacher Report:Tony Pauline https://www.thesteelerslockerroom.com/authentic-terrell-edmunds-jersey , Draft Analyst:Pos: Slightly undersized run-and-chase linebacker who makes a lot of plays on the ball. Athletic and covers a lot of area on the field. Gets depth on pass drops and shows sideline-to-sideline speed. Breaks down well, uses his hands very effectively and makes a lot of plays in space. Stays with coverage assignments, displays solid ball skills and plays to his 40 time. Forceful on the blitz, displays outstanding skill in pursuit and wraps up tackling.Neg: Struggles to get off blocks and gets easily slowed through the trash. More of a drag-down tackler.Analysis: Gilbert is not a big or stout linebacker, but he’s a pursuit defender with next-level athleticism. He was terrific during Shrine Game practices and turned in a dominant pro-day workout, and he has positioned himself as a potential late-round choice.Video highlights:Derwin Gray, OL, MarylandLance Zierlein, NFL.com: Matt Miller, Bleacher Report:Tony Pauline Womens Terrell Edmunds Jersey , Draft Analyst:Pos: Large, surprisingly athletic tackle with good lateral blocking range. Quickly gets off the snap and keeps his feet moving and his hands active. and makes good use of angles. Displays footwork off the edge, jolts defenders with explosive hand punch and rides rushers from their angles of attack. Quick, strong and takes defenders from the action on running downs. Very explosive and works to finish blocks.Neg: Lined up at left tackle but may lack the footwork to stay there at the next level. Must learn to finish blocks. Overcommits and gets beaten by inside moves.Analysis: Gray was a solid college lineman who showed consistent progress in his game. He possesses the size and strength to develop into a starting right tackle at the next level if properly coached.Video highlights:

The Oakland Raiders placed third-string quarterback Nathan Peterman on injured reserve with an elbow injury Monday Derek Carr Jersey White , a day after claiming DeShone Kizer off waivers from Green Bay as the fourth quarterback on the roster.Peterman had a strong preseason for the Raiders after the former fifth-round pick flamed out in Buffalo. Peterman completed 60 of 84 passes for 475 yards, three TDs and no interceptions for a 97.1 rating. But he hurt a ligament in his elbow in the preseason finale at Seattle last week and now will miss at least the first eight weeks of the season. Oakland has the option of designating him as one of two players who can be activated from IR later this season.Peterman struggled mightily with the Bills, throwing five interceptions in the first half of his first start in 2017. In eight games over two seasons, Peterman completed 52.3% of his passes with 12 interceptions, three TDs and a 32.5 passer rating.Only two players since the merger have thrown more passes than Peterman's 130 with a lower rating. He started 15 games as a rookie, completing 53.6% of his passes with 22 interceptions, 11 TDs and a 60.5 rating. He played sparingly as a reserve last season in Green Bay before getting cut on Saturday.Peterman and Kizer have the worst interceptions rates in the NFL over the past two seasons among quarterbacks with at least 100 pass attempts."I'm a big believer that you have to take care of that position. Kizer is a guy that I liked coming out of Notre Dame. He's only 23 years old. He has 15, 16 starts," coach Jon Gruden said."So he's had a lot of reps. He's had a lot of experiences. I'm sure most of his bad experiences, like Peterman, will be reported over and over. But I think he's got a big upside. He's athletic. I know (offensive coordinator) Greg (Olson) and I are looking forward to working with him. We have to fast-track him. He has a lot to learn in a short period of time."The Raiders also placed cornerback Isaiah Johnson on injured reserve after he suffered a facial injury in the preseason opener last month against the Rams.Oakland brought back two players it had released over the weekend to fill those spots Womens Bo Jackson Jersey , signing defensive end Josh Mauro and linebacker Kyle Wilber. The Raiders were hoping to bring Mauro and Wilber back. The changes in Pittsburgh could include one of the most important members of the coaching staff.Offensive line coach Mike Munchak has “strong interest” in the Denver Broncos coaching job Womens Dre'Mont Jones Jersey , according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.聽Munchak’s adult daughter and her family live in Denver, and Munchak reportedly has an affinity for the area. The team’s level of interest in Munchak isn’t clear.Schefter points out that Munchak declined an offer to become a head coach last year. Though the team isn’t named, it’s most likely the Cardinals. Munchak withdrew from consideration at a time when the team wanted to interview him a second time, issuing a statement citing family considerations.Munchak, a Hall of Fame offensive lineman https://www.broncoslockerroom.com/authentic-drew-lock-jersey , coached the Titans from 2011 through 2013, winning 22 of 48 games. He has served as offensive line coach in Pittsburgh for the past five years, crafting a unit that had struggled for years into one of the best in the league. The Broncos have tendered defensive lineman Shelby Harris as a restricted free agent. It’s a second-round tender, which comes with a salary of $3.095 million and leaves Harris free to solicit other offers that the Broncos would have the right to match. Harris does not sound like he’s planning to move on this offseason, however.“I’m happy. It solidifies I’ll be a Bronco for at least another year Dalton Risner Jersey ,’’ Harris said, via Mike Klis of KUSA. “ and there’s mutual interest on both sides to do that. But for now, a guy who was out of football for a year, I’ll take what I can get. It’s a little financial boost for my family.”Harris was a 2017 seventh-round pick by the Raiders and played eight games for the team over two seasons. He was out of football for most of the 2016 season Womens Noah Fant Jersey , but has found a role in Denver over the last two years. He has played in all 32 games and is coming off a year with 5.5 sacks and his first career interception. That interception came at the end of a win over the Steelers and became fodder for the Antonio Brown–Ben Roethlisberger feud in Pittsburgh. The tender offer makes it likely that Harris will see Brown twice in 2019 as the wideout is expected to join the Raiders when trades can become official on Wednesday.

Eagles vs. Falcons Week 1: Prediction Womens James Conner Jersey , how to watch and open thread It’s hard to believe, but the 2018-2019 regular season is finally here!! While 30 NFL teams don’t play until Sunday or Monday, the league’s kickoff game pits the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles vs. the Atlanta Falcons in the City of Brotherly Love.In case you didn’t know, this game is nationally televised on NBC, and can be viewed through the NBC Sports app as well — so there’s no real reason to miss it!But down to more important business...Who will win this opening game? Considering Pittsburgh Steelers fans really don’t have a dog in this fight — unless you count a disdain for things on the eastern side of the state of Pennsylvania — it should be a level-headed prediction. As for me, I actually think the visiting team will win for the second year in a row. Last year it was the Kansas City Chiefs who started the season red-hot by defeating the New England Patriots in Foxborough, only to be ‘cooled off’ by the Black-and-gold a few weeks later.I think the Falcons have something to prove, and they’re going to go into Philadelphia and make the Eagles’ fans pray for a quick recovery by Carson Wentz. Nick Foles is inconsistent, and the Super Bowl MVP is far cry from what fans will see on Thursday night.I’ll take the Falcons in this one by the score of:Atlanta — 28Philadelphia — 17What’s your score prediction? The trade with the Denver Broncos to move up 10 spots and select Devin Bush was almost universally approved, but what about the rest of the draft class?NFL.com recently gave some accolades to the AFC North 2019 NFL Draft classes, and the Steelers were given the ‘Best Pick’ award by selecting Devin Bush in the first round. The reviewing of the draft class didn’t stop there, and the article then graded and ranked all four teams who call the AFC North home. Believe it or not, the Steelers ranked dead last.Check out the grades:1. Cincinnati Bengals: A-Overall: Watching the Steelers trade in front of them to land Devin Bush -- who would have been a good fit at a position of need -- wasn’t an ideal start, but these Bengals were resilient. They rebounded and put together a really nice haul, starting with Williams. The decision to re-sign Bobby Hart seems a lot less offensive now that he can move into a backup role and Williams can start at right tackle. Williams might be even better at guard than he is at tackle T. J. Watt Jersey , but they got a plug-and-play guy who’ll be a starter on the O-line for the next decade. That’s solid work. Tyler Eifert is back on another one-year deal, but you can’t count on him to stay healthy, so the Sample pick makes sense, although it was probably a little early to take him. He’s likely to be much more effective as a blocker than receiver off the bat, but don’t sleep on his potential as a pass catcher. They finally turned their attention to the biggest area of need with the selection of Pratt, a former safety who’ll bring some thump to a division where you can never have enough of it at LB. It’s hard not to like what they did to start Day 3, adding Finley, Wren and Jordan in Round 4. If all three guys are starting within a couple years, I won’t be surprised, although Finley’s odds are a little longer than the other two (he’s a solid backup at worst, which would still make him a fine value). Williams and Anderson (if he can stay healthy) provide depth at a position where Cincinnati needed it following the release of Mark Walton.2. Baltimore Ravens: B+Overall: Highly respectable start for Eric DeCosta in his first draft as GM in Baltimore, home to a team that got a lot faster on draft weekend. The Ravens played things just right in the first round Jerome Bettis Jersey White , trading down a few spots to pick up some extra draft capital and still landing Hollywood Brown, who has drawn comparisons to DeSean Jackson due to his speed and size (weighs just 166 pounds). He’s the weapon this team needed to find to help second-year QB Lamar Jackson. They didn’t stop there when it came to stocking up for their young signal-caller. Yeah, the track-team building continued. Zierlein’s comp for Hill is Phillip Lindsay. If the explosive RB lives up to that billing, he’ll be a perfect sidekick for Mark Ingram in the backfield. Boykin isn’t twitchy like Hollywood or Hill, but he provides a nice balance as a pass catcher with size and length. Powers fits the Ravens’ mold as a rugged guard with nasty to his game. The team began to rebuild after an offseason of change on defense with the wildly productive Ferguson (FBS all-time leader in sacks with 45) seeing his slide come to an end in Round 3. He was once considered a potential first-rounder, but a disappointing offseason sullied his stock. Ferguson will be an interesting developmental pass rusher to watch. There’s a debate about whether Marshall is a better fit for corner or safety, but he was worth a shot in Round 4 as a guy who can contribute on special teams and possibly earn playing time in the secondary down the road. The lingering question is who will replace C.J. Mosley at ILB -- the Ravens didn’t draft one, which was a bit surprising.3. Cleveland Browns: BOverall: This grade would be a C if it were based solely on the picks they made, but we’re taking the OBJ trade into account, which bumps it up. He was well worth the price of their first- and third-rounder (and Jabrill Peppers) this year. As for the picks, Williams was easily the best one Cleveland made. He was a first-round value in Round 2, so John Dorsey traded up a few spots to get the long James Conner Jersey White , speedy CB, despite the concerns about whether he’ll be competitive enough in run support. If you would have told Browns fans back in January that we’re going to take your top three picks and turn them into OBJ and Greedy Williams, they would be ecstatic, to say the least. Aside from Greedy, though, we’re not sure there’s a starter in this bunch for Cleveland. It was a surprise to see Takitaki come off the board so early given his ups and downs in college and tweener traits, but he could become a core special-teamer and backup. We’re a little higher on the Redwine pick, which gave them a versatile guy who can also become a key cog on special teams. Wilson saw his stock plummet this offseason, but he could turn out to be a steal if he puts it all together. Seibert was the draft’s top kicker and could prove worthy of the pick. There’s just not a lot here to have major confidence in, but it bears repeating -- OBJ!4. Pittsburgh Steelers: B-Overall: This draft started with a bang for Pittsburgh and kind of petered out after that, with some interesting swings along the way. I like the idea of identifying a massive need, finding a fit and then doing whatever it takes to land your target. That’s exactly what Kevin Colbert did by trading up 10 spots for Bush. There was such a dramatic dropoff at the position after Devin White (the fifth overall pick) and Bush that the team felt the Michigan Man was the guy they had to get. Good call. They turned the picks they acquired in the Antonio Brown trade into Johnson and Gentry. I’m not feeling super great right now about the payoff for one of the greatest receivers of our time Womens Jerome Bettis Jersey , but given Colbert’s track record, it won’t be surprising if he’s found another gem or two between the two of them. Zierlein’s comp for Johnson is former Steeler Emmanuel Sanders. (6-8) and athleticism, but drops have been an issue for him. Now, there’s plenty to like about the Layne and Snell picks. Layne was a great value in Round 3, and Snell is a perfect fit for the Steel City as a power back who can pound the rock between the tackles. The defenders they took flyers on in Round 6 don’t have athletic traits that are going to generate a lot of excitement, but they were highly productive college players. What are your thoughts of these grades? Agree or disagree? Let us know in the comment section below!

On Wednesday Womens Derek Carr Jersey , the Chargers twitter account tweeted about a video about Mason Rudolph saying it would be a “dream come true” to play under current QB Philip Rivers:This drew the attention of Hardwick and Richards, who talked about it on Thursday’s show. At 6-5 and 235 pounds, Rudolph played his senior season at Oklahoma State University in 2017. Although the team did not meet some lofty expectations, the QB was very productive. He completed 65% of his passes for an FBS- leading 4,904 yards. He also threw 37 touchdowns to only nine interceptions. In what is expected to be a top-heavy draft class for QBs, Rudolph is considered by many draft experts to be a tier below guys like Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Josh Allen, and Baker Mayfield. The former OSU Cowboy will likely go somewhere where he can be groomed as a backup, as many believe he is not prepared to handle an NFL offense immediately after being drafted.NFL Network’s Mike Mayock gave him a second-round draft grade Antonio Brown Raiders Jersey , although it seems as if his stock might very well be rising. We started with the top 5 picks taken in the top 15, then the best player in the bottom of the first, and the best player in the second round. Now we continue to the third round. The Raiders didn’t have a pick in the third round of this year’s draft. They traded it along with a 5th round pick to acquire Antonio Brown. I’d say that’s pretty good value for a third round pick. Especially if you consider the Raiders haven’t gotten a lot of value from the round of late.We talked about how bad the second round had been the past few years. The third round was just as bad. And again, the lone exception was that stellar 2014 draft. That’s when they landed Gabe Jackson in the third round. Other than him, though? Ugh.Last year’s third round picks Brandon Parker and Arden Key have a lot of work to do to prove they are viable. Parker was a disaster at right tackle and Arden Key mustered up just one sack despite starting most of the season at defensive end. Though it’s way too soon to use that as a way to judge how they may develop as a player.Prior to that it was quite ugly including Eddie Vanderdoes (2017) Womens Bo Jackson Jersey , Shilique Calhoun (2016), Clive Walford (2015), Sio Moore (2013), and Tony Bergstrom (2012). Unlike the second round, there isn’t a long list of great talents from the third round. Though the round featured one of the greatest NFL players of all time who stands well above the rest.Art Shell (1968)Fifteen year NFL career. Eight Pro Bowls including 7 straight (1972-78). Two All Pros. Two Super Bowl rings. Hall of Famer. Member of the All 1970s first team. Shell became the Raiders’ full time starting left tackle in 1970 and didn’t miss a start the next nine years. He protected the left side for Ken Stabler all the way to the Raiders’ first Super Bowl win in 1976 and then did the same for Jim Plunkett in their second Super Bowl win in 1980.In total, Shell started 169 regular season games and 23 playoff games.Shell retired following the 1982 season and take over as Raiders as offensive line coach, where he would get a third Super Bowl ring. He would spend six years in the position. In 1989, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Come the season, he was named interim head coach, replacing Mike Shanahan who Al Davis fired four games into the season. tag removed and be the Raiders head coach for six years Womens Antonio Brown Jersey , boasting winning records in all but one of those seasons and an overall record of 54-38. Al Davis later said he regretted firing Shell, and 12 years later, welcomed him back as head coach. That would lead to the disastrous 2006 season. All told Shell spent 28 years with the Raiders, first as a player and then as a coach. Pretty good value for a third round pick out of Mid-Eastern Shore College. Oddly enough, two years later, the Raiders would again pull a talented player in the third round from that same college in Gerald Irons.Honorable mentions:Gabe Jackson (2014)Jared Veldheer (2010)Kirk Morrison (2005)Vann McElroy (1982)Mark van Eeghen (1974)Gerald Irons (1970)Bob Svihus (1965)Follow @LeviDamien

John DeFilippo has re-emerged in Jacksonville. Which obviously means that Jacksonville could emerge as a contender for Eagles quarterback Nick Foles.DeFilippo Womens Joe Flacco Jersey , the quarterbacks coach during the Super Bowl run that saw Foles become the MVP of the league’s championship game, knows Foles well, and has had success with him. With Blake Bortles clearly on the outs, the Jags will be looking — and DeFilippo will surely be lobbying for Foles. For a team that has the talent to contend, a quarterback like Foles could be the answer, especially in light of his views on the importance of relationships and teamwork. The question becomes whether the Jaguars can finagle Foles’ rights, whether it happens through the free agency process or by a trade with the Eagles. If it’s the latter, the Eagles surely would be happy to comply. They’d love to steer Foles out of the division (the Giants and Washington may be interested), and they won’t see the Jaguars in a regular-season setting until 2022. Whether it’s Jacksonville, Miami, Cincinnati, Denver Joe Flacco Jersey White , or someone else in the AFC, the Eagles would like nothing more than the ensure that Foles won’t resurface in the NFC East.Maybe that’s where the compromise could happen. Even though it would be an unenforceable side agreement that could get the Eagles in trouble (if anyone were to blab about it), the Eagles and Foles could agree on a wink-nod basis to let Foles walk away as a free agent if he makes it clear that he won’t roll in either direction on I-95 but instead head to a team with which the Eagles doesn’t directly compete. It’s widely been believed that Peyton Manning has resisted taking a TV analyst job because he doesn’t want to have to analyze his brother, Eli. What has widely been believed is now being officially reported.Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reports, citing two unnamed sources close to Peyton Manning, that he passed on the chance to become the lead analyst for because this year’s schedule includes a pair of Giants games.Although there’s no guarantee Eli will actually be playing quarterback for the Giants come Week Nine vs. the Cowboys or Week 14 at the Eagles, Peyton also is reportedly hesitant to analyze/criticize any of his former teammates.“If he ever decides [] is something he wants to do, it’s going to be after Eli has finished his career and he gets a little bit further from his era of playing and maybe some of his teammates have moved on, too,” one of the unnamed sources told Robinson. “It would have been a tough position for him this season, with the Giants [and Broncos] being on the schedule. There is a lot of loyalty there for him and I don’t think he’d ever want to be in a position where he’d be conflicted about his analysis. It just wouldn’t have been a comfortable situation this year.”Peyton Manning basically said that last month, when he explained his thought process at the Manning Passing Academy.“It’s great to have someone that you’re so close to Womens Courtland Sutton Jersey , that you feel invested in, to watch [Eli] play and compete,” Peyton Manning said, via Robinson. “I know when Eli stops playing, it will be different, because when you have a brother, you feel a part of it. I pull hard for Eli. I keep up with the coaches, guys like Adam Gase, who I played for, [and] players, like Emmanuel Sanders and Von Miller, that I played with. Anybody that you have a connection to Womens Von Miller Jersey , you feel that connection when you watch him play in person or on TV. So I’ve been real proud of Eli and I’m looking forward to watching him play this year.”It’s one thing for Peyton to wait until Eli and Sanders and Miller stop playing; if Peyton plans to resist becoming a broadcaster until Gase is done coaching, Peyton could be waiting a while.Regardless, Peyton is willing to wait — even if it means that the networks won’t wait for him. (Spoiler: They will.) He added another quote last month that could be interpreted as a backhanded slap at the football focus during his playing career of a former quarterback who has quickly mastered the craft of analyzing games.“I saw where Tony Romo said that he always knew that he wanted to be a broadcaster,” Peyton said last month, via Robinson. “That’s all I knew. I was all-in on that job. I didn’t think about anything else while I was playing. And I think that’s a good way to be. I think you’ve got to be all-in on what you’re doing.”For Peyton, the networks will be ready whenever he’s ready to go all-in. And whenever he says the word, one or more of those networks will be ready to go all-in on Peyton, turning upside down if need be whatever arrangements they currently have to accommodate someone who many believe will instantly become as good as anyone who has ever done the job, if not better.

This year’s Pittsburgh Steelers team needs to finally realize what type of team they intended on being last season."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections Latest NewsSteelers Film Room2018 NFL Draft AnalysisLatest NewsLatest NewsCommentaryThe Pittsburgh Steelers team that never was will try again in 2019New JuJu Smith-Schuster Jersey White ,18commentsThis year’s Pittsburgh Steelers team needs to finally realize what type of team they intended on being last season.EDTShareTweetShareShareThe Pittsburgh Steelers team that never was will try again in 2019Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY SportsSometimes you just never know what might have been. The 2017 Pittsburgh Steelers appeared destined for glory. They were winning seemingly every close game, many in heart stopping fashion. The ball was bouncing their way and they were closing in on home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Then, as life is prone to do, everything changed.First, their best defensive player lays on the field, unable to move his lower extremities, after suffering a life altering, career threatening injury. Then they ascend to the height of exhilaration, only to plummet to the deepest of frustration a moment later, after a potentially game winning touchdown catch somehow didn't actually happen. That had to be like getting one of those fake winning lottery tickets but nobody told you it was a joke till after you called in to quit your job. One devastating injury and one overturned call completely altered the Steelers path to the Super Bowl. Now their playoff opponent would be the worst matchup for them possible, even before Shazier's injury. The rest is history.Put all that bad juju behind them and move forward. Somewhere around this time Kevin Colbert decided he was a riverboat gambler extraordinaire so he repeatedly tried his luck, and lost. There never appeared to be a sense of urgency to fill the huge gaping hole left in the middle of the Steelers defense after Shazier's injury. After the draft came and went without any potential replacement even selected https://www.thesteelerslockerroom.com/authentic-juju-smith-schuster-jersey , Colbert gambled he could find a suitable replacement from the NFL free agent bargain bin, or maybe that player was already on the roster. Anybody call for a red headed overachiever to save the day? Wrong again. All through the distractions of free agency, draft evaluations, Shazier's rehabilitation, and coaching staff changes some intense contract negotiations with a certain superstar running back were going nowhere fast. After realizing a long term deal was unlikely, Colbert gambled again and slapped the franchise tag on the table. Surely the player would sign the tag, play out the season, and move on to greener pastures. I feel certain that Colbert assured himself that nobody in their right mind would walk away from that much guaranteed money to prove a point, but he was wrong again. The uncertainty of the situation fragmented the locker room and revealed cracks in the Steelers foundation previously unseen. The cracks only worsened with pressure and the drama flowed out freely. A season that at times showed such promise ended up collapsing under the strain of expectations and discord. The season that was to be never materialized.Kevin Colbert appears to be done with gambling. After this off season started with the Steelers drama dominating the front page news, Colbert traded the source of that drama, and arguably his best offensive weapon, away for the best return possible due to the extenuating circumstances. He has never looked back. Instead the Steelers organization have thrown their support behind their future HOF franchise QB Ben Roethlisberger T. J. Watt Jersey White , both in word and deed. Contract extension successful, resulting stability and sanity achieved. So what does the future hold for today's Pittsburgh Steelers? I believe this year's team will be a better representation of what last year's team was supposed to be. About three years ago the Steelers made a renewed commitment to evaluating the character and leadership qualities of any potential draftees. The results have been impressive, but this year's draft class is particularly strong in those aspects.Based on the makeup of the new additions, it is apparent that the Steelers intend to return to their roots so to speak. The individual skill sets of the incoming free agents and draftees suggest a conscious effort to strengthen the middle of the defense and improve the overall balance of the offense. For the first time in a long time, the Pittsburgh Steelers offense can focus on improved execution over coddling egos. They will need to learn to play together as a cohesive unit, but the talent is undeniable at every level. They definitely have an impressive stable of running backs that seem tailor made for some smash mouth football. Snell may be too good to keep off the field. If Devin Bush can live up to his press clippings, then the Steelers defense very well could be elite once again. Some turnovers would be nice, but like somebody commented on a thread the other day, forcing a punt is a change of possession too. We'll never know what might have been, but I for one like the direction the Steelers are going. Half a century after he was the first overall pick in the 1969 NFL draft, Mean Joe Greene will get some recognition on draft night. The Steelers have announced that Greene will be in Nashville on Thursday night and will go to the podium to call the team’s first pick.“It is special,” Greene told the team’s website. “Since my draft day Womens James Conner Jersey , more than 50 years ago, to be here and to announce the Pittsburgh Steelers No. 1 draft choice is very humbling, very humbling.”Players didn’t attend the draft in Greene’s day, and he admits now that he was disappointed to be going to the Steelers, who had only won two games the year before and had never won a championship.“I got a phone call,” Greene said. “I was at my dining room table. Me and [late wife] Agnes. I said ‘Agnes that was someone from the Pittsburgh Steelers. They drafted me number one.’ And I didn’t want to go to that team. I didn’t know any better. All I was dealing with was what I had seen on television. The record. It wasn’t one of my favorite teams. I liked the Baltimore Colts, Cleveland Browns, and Dallas Cowboys. They were winning then.”Now Greene is a Hall of Fame Steelers player who went on to have a long post-playing career working for the Steelers, and he says he’s looking forward to meeting their first-round pick.“I will be sure to let him know that this is the best organization in the National Football League,” Greene said. That will be a special moment for some young player on Thursday night.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Harold Baines was given a save as big as any Lee Smith ever posted. In a vote sure to spark renewed cries of cronyism at Cooperstown Womens Derek Carr Jersey , Baines surprisingly was picked for the baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday after never coming close in any previous election.“Very shocked,” the career .289 hitter said on a conference call. when he retired, was an easy pick when the Today’s Game Era Committee met at the winter meetings. It took 12 votes for election by the 16-member panel — Smith was unanimous, Baines got 12 and former outfielder and manager Lou Piniella fell just short with 11.George Steinbrenner, Orel Hershiser, Albert Belle, Joe Carter, Will Clark, Davey Johnson and Charlie Manuel all received fewer than five votes.Smith and Baines both debuted in Chicago during the 1980 season. Smith began with the Cubs and went on to record 478 saves while Baines started out with the White Sox and had 2,866 hits.Baines had 384 home runs and 1,628 RBIs in a 22-year career — good numbers, but not stacking up against the greats of his day. He never drew more than 6.1 percent in five elections by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America, far from the 75 percent required.“I wasn’t expecting this day to come,” the six-time All-Star said. The Hall board-appointed panel included longtime White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf.“I’m glad he was on that committee this year to help to get into the Hall of Fame,” Baines said.Reinsdorf praised his former player in a statement. Baines currently serves as a team ambassador in community relations department of the White Sox.“So happy for Harold. He’s a great player and a great human being,” Reinsdorf said. “I am so honored that I was a member of the committee. He deserved to be in long ago. I am just so excited.”“Not only was Harold one of my favorite players to watch, but I have nothing but admiration for him as a player and as a human being,” he said.Tony La Russa, Baines’ first big league manager, also was on the panel that elected him.In the past, Phil Rizzuto and Bill Mazeroski were among the players who benefited from friendly faces on Veterans Committees to reach the Hall. That panel has been revamped over the years, and the Today’s Game Era group was created as part of changes in 2014.“The era committees were established as a sort of a court of appeals for an opportunity in the event that over time it was felt that maybe somebody slipped through the cracks Womens Antonio Brown Jersey ,” Hall President Jeff Idelson said. “And in the case of someone who received 6 percent of the vote in the BBWAA election, the reason that may have happened could be for many, many reasons.”Baines, now 59, had a smooth, consistent, left-handed stroke. But he never finished higher than ninth in an MVP vote, and never was among the top five AL hitters in the yearly batting race. His single-season high was 29 home runs at a time when lots of players hit more.Smith’s fastball helped him become a seven-time All-Star in an 18-year-old career. Known for his slow trudges from the bullpen to the mound, he owned the saves record when he retired during the 1997 season while with Montreal. Trevor Hoffman and then Mariano Rivera reset the mark.Smith never reached 51 percent in 15 BBWAA elections. Still, he kept believing his day would come.“I’m pretty patient, though, and I think I waited long enough. But it’s sweeter,” he said on a conference call. “You look at those things, well, OK, who’s on the ballot this year? Who’s on the ballot next year? But I’d never, never, never give up hope.“And then when they started with the second-chance ballot, I thought my chances got a little better. This probably today was probably the (most) nervous I’ve been with this Hall of Fame voting thing,” he said.Smith became the seventh pitcher who primarily was a reliever to make the Hall, joining Hoffman, Dennis Eckersley, Rollie Fingers Antonio Brown Jersey White , Goose Gossage, Bruce Sutter and Hoyt Wilhelm. The 61-year-old has long worked for the San Francisco Giants as a minor league pitching coach and instructor.Baines was a designated hitter for much of his career after knee trouble ended his days in the outfield. DHs have struggled to gain backing from Hall voters. Baines joined Frank Thomas as the only players in the Hall who spent more than half his games as a DH.“Everything I hear or read is DH is really not part of the game, I guess. But I disagree. But maybe this will the open up the doors for some more DHs,” Baines said. Both closers and DHs could see the numbers increase again very shortly.Rivera is eligible for the first time and big-hitting DH Edgar Martinez will be back on the ballot when results of the next BBWAA election are announced Jan. 22.Induction ceremonies are scheduled for July 21 at Cooperstown, New York.Between now and then, there’s certain to be more debate about who else should be in the Hall. Drug-tainted Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens are on the upcoming BBWAA ballot, influential players’ union head Marvin Miller has been denied seven times by various committees, and admitted steroids user Mark McGwire wasn’t among Sunday’s candidates. The Steelers will move forward in 2019 without receiver Antonio Brown or running back Le'Veon Bell. The team hopes that it will be addition by subtraction.“I think only time will tell,” Steelers running back James Conner told #PFTPM on Monday. “I think we became closer maybe because of everything. Throughout OTAs and minicamp, it was fun to see the guys. You know, come into the facility, excited to be there, the interactions and the relationships. They’ve all been great so far. Great vibes within our organization. We’re excited about the future, man.”The future will include constant external comparisons between what the Steelers are doing without Brown and Bell, and what Brown and Bell are doing without the Steelers. The current Steelers players won’t be paying attention to that.“We always have respect for those guys,” Conner said of Brown and Bell. “Those are our former teammates. They’re great people as well as football players. Worrying about what they’re doing in their states and teams, that can’t help us none. We hope they do well and wish the best for them, but that can’t help us at all. That’s behind us.”What’s in front of the Steelers is an opportunity to band together, to find motivation in the noise, and to overachieve, after a couple of seasons of perceived underachievement.

The 2019 hiring cycle saw the pendulum swing sharply in the direction of Sean McVay. More specifically Phillip Lindsay Jersey White , anyone who has worked with him, worked for him, and/or shared an elevator with him. with McVay connections, sort of. Two were direct — new Packers coach Matt LaFleur and new Bengals coach Zac Taylor worked for McVay in L.A. One was tenuous, but nevertheless mentioned by the Cardinals when hiring Kliff Kingsbury: He and McVay are friends. So which of them will live up to the hype? LaFleur arguably has the best team, but also the toughest task of getting through to a locker room dominated by the presence of Aaron Rodgers. Taylor has low expectations as he takes over a team that has a feel of irrelevance and mediocrity; the low bar actually gives him a great chance to overachieve, since no one expects much from the Bengals. Then there’s Kingsbury, who is essentially a crapshoot with the Cardinals. He wanted quarterback Kyler Murray Womens Phillip Lindsay Jersey , and Kingsbury got him. Now, the guy who was fired for not being good enoug in a so-so college conference has to navigate the toughest division in football. With defensive-minded Vic Fangio getting his first head-coaching job at age 60 in Denver, the Broncos’ performance relative to Green Bay, Cincinnati, and Arizona will become a great litmus test for the new infatuation with young offensive minds. Depending on how things go this season, the pendulum could swing sharply in the other direction by January. DeMarcus Lawrence continues rehab on his shoulder, but even while doing that, the Cowboys defensive end is thinking about getting a leg up on Von Miller. The Broncos linebacker has talked openly about breaking Michael Strahan’s single-season sacks record. Strahan had 22.5 in 2001.Lawrence wants it John Elway Jersey White , too, and he wants to get it before Miller does.“My goal is to be the best that’s ever played this game,” Lawrence said Saturday at SportsCon 2019 in Dallas. “For sure, I want to beat that sack record, make it my own, so he can talk about beating my record. I’m going to just wait until I get to the season and then worry about sacks.”Lawrence, 27, had 14.5 sacks in 2017 and 10.5 last season and got paid for it. He signed a five-year Womens Royce Freeman Jersey , $105 million deal this offseason. The two-time Pro Bowler delayed shoulder surgery until getting his money, so Lawrence didn’t go under the knife until April. Private defensive line coach Brandon Jordan recently posted video of Lawrence using his shoulder while working out in the sand.“The mobility and my strength is coming back naturally,” Lawrence said. “I’m working every day. I’m able to do things. I’m just still limited. Just taking my time. I’ve got time still.”Lawrence is expected to start training camp on the physically unable to perform list, although he said Saturday he has no idea what the plan is.“My main thing is to be ready by Week One,” Lawrence said.

Armon Watts Womens Dwayne Haskins Jersey , DLSchool: Arkansas | Conference: SECCollege Experience: Senior | Age: 22Height / Weight: 6-5 / 300 lbsProjected Draft Status: 3rd-6th RoundNFL Comparison: Shamar StephenCollege StatisticsPlayer Overview“One of the bright spots on the Arkansas defense” is probably the best way to sum up Armon Watts’ 2018 season. The Razorbacks were an absolutely brutal 2-10 (0-8 in the SEC) last year, and there weren’t a lot of things to like about their season, but Watts was certainly one of them.Watts was a 3-star recruit from St. Louis, and was a bit of a late bloomer, not making much noise until his senior year.Given the opportunity to start in 2018, however, he took advantage of the role and led Arkansas with 7 sacks and three forced fumbles. What really caught my attention was - while researching picks for an SB Nation Fan Mock - coming across a quote by draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah mentioning Watts in the same breath as guys being discussed as first round picks: “When you look at tiers, in the first-round tier, Quinnen Williams, Christian Wilkins, Ed Oliver, Rashan Gary, who I think is more of an edge guy, Jeffery Simmons, and [Dexter] Lawrence could factor in there in the late 20s,” Jeremiah said. “Then, you get into that next tier for me, you start getting to Jerry Tillery from Notre Dame. I really like Armon Watts from Arkansas, who is just a real strong-handed guy and solid on tape.”StrengthsQuick once he gets goingGreat leverage, stays low“Eye popping” strengthVery good hand usageGood ability to read schemes and reactStrong tacklerPraiseworthy work ethicExcellent size for an interior linemanWeaknessesLack of explosivenessSlow to change directionLimited rangeAverage athleteLet’s see his workHow He Would Fit On The RedskinsPotentially a Tim Settle-like mid to late-round steal Dwayne Haskins Jersey White , Watts is a perfect Jim Tomsula project to continue to feed the Redskins’ DL pipeline for years to come.If we could get this guy with one of our 5th rounders, I’d take it in a heartbeat. While he doesn’t possess the athleticism or burst of guys who will be going in the first round, he’s solidly among the players who make this one of the deepest drafts for defensive linemen in recent memory. By several accounts, Watts is strong as an ox, and was regularly able to have his way with offensive lineman one on one. Given that Watts didn’t have significant playing time until his senior season, there’s still lots of tread left on the tires, and likely considerable room to grow and develop. My sense is, his best days are still ahead of him. While DL is currently the position group of greatest strength for the Redskins, it will take the continued, annual or bi-annual drafting of guys like Settle and Watts to keep it that way. The Eagles’ initial 53-man roster includes four defensive tackles, which is usually the number of players the team has active at the position on gameday. One of those four is Fletcher Cox, who has done limited work this summer as he makes his way back from offseason foot surgery. At a press conference on Saturday after the roster was set, executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman was asked if keeping four defensive tackles meant the team expected Cox to play against Washington.“Yes, I this I that would be fair,” Roseman said. “I was trying to think of something funnier, but I didn’t have anything.”Malik Jackson, Timmy Jernigan and Hassan Ridgeway round out the defensive tackle group.Treyvon Hester was let go and Roseman called Hester “a hard cut” because he’s an NFL-caliber player. If someone agrees, Hester is likely to be claimed on Sunday as teams continue to churn their rosters ahead of Week One.
