Major League Baseball uniforms will look a bit different in the postseason, as the New Era logo will be added to the left side of each players cap beginning with the wild-card games, the manufacturer confirmed to ESPNs Darren Rovell.The logo will remain throughout the postseason and become a permanent fixture in 2017.New Eras logo routinely appears on the side of minor league baseball caps and those worn for other sports, such as NFL sideline caps. It also appears on a variety of fashion caps created exclusively for retail sale. Until now, however, MLBs policy has been to avoid having the manufacturers logo on its on-field headwear.The inclusion of the logo, which had been rumored since last week, was first reported by Sportslogos.net.The addition will give MLB uniforms the most wide-ranging portfolio of manufacturer marks among the major North American pro sports leagues. Along with the New Era mark, a typical MLB player will also be wearing the logos of Majestic (jersey and pants), Nike (undershirt collar) and Stance (socks), in addition to manufacturer logos on shoes, batting gloves and other equipment.The move is also the latest step in the transformation of MLB caps into a vehicle for showcasing logos and patches. MLBs familiar silhouetted-batter logo was added to the back of all game caps in 1992, and the New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves became the first two teams to wear the World Series logo on their caps in 1996. Since then, MLB caps have featured a variety of commemorative patches and logos, which had previously been positioned exclusively on jersey sleeves.The New Era logo has appeared on game caps at least once in the past. On April 20, 2005, the San Diego Padres wore a camouflage jersey with an olive cap featuring the companys mark. The Padres and New Era both said at the time that the logo-clad caps had been sent to the team by mistake and that nobody realized the error until just before the game.The first postseason game featuring the new caps will be the American League wild-card game, scheduled to take place on Oct. 4.
