But the Chileans responded with an equalizer four minutes later as Gonzalez sent a brilliant cross into the penalty area from the left flank, allowing Gutierrez to nod it past U.S. goalkeeper Nick Rimando. Klinsmanns squad took the lead just past the half-hour mark with some excellent play in tight space as Yedlin got free down the right wing and slid it into space for Mix Diskerud. Diskerud, the newly-minted New York City FC midfielder, cut it back to Altidore, who fired it home for his 26th career international goal. As the second half unfolded, however, the home side seized control and looked to be just a bit quicker to the ball than the Americans. Michael Bradley produced the best chance for the U.S. in the second half when he let one rip from distance on the hour mark that smacked the crossbar and stayed out of the net. With Chile continuing to gain momentum as the second half wore on, the hosts equalized in the 66th minute as Gonzalez was played through the U.S. defense by Marco Medel before firing past Rimando into the bottom right corner for his fifth international strike. The deciding tally came with 15 minutes to play as Gonzalez was quick to react to a rebound on the left side of the box and he smashed it past Rimando to give the hosts the lead. The visitors had one final opportunity in stoppage time as Los Angeles Galaxy youngster Gyasi Zardes let one go from the right side of the penalty area, but it was swallowed up by Herrara and Chile escaped with the victory.
