With the season more than half over and a two-and-a-half week Olympic break coming up, the NHLs Mar. P.K Subban Jersey . 5 Trade Deadline isnt that far away and teams will be making decisions on whether to buy, sell and decide which players can make the biggest difference and hold the greatest value. Check out todays trade rumours and speculation from around the NHL beat. And follow TSN.ca through Deadline Day for all the updates. Oil Change? Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal (http://blogs.edmontonjournal.com/2014/01/05/short-shifts/) mentions the possibility that the Pittsburgh Penguins could offer defenceman Simon Despres at the trade deadline because they have both youth and depth at the position. He also mentions that because of his ties to head coach Dallas Eakins, the Edmonton Oilers could have interest in Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender James Reimer if he were to be available. Matheson adds that Washington Capitals goaltender Michal Neuvirth could also be in play at the deadline. In a separate report, Matheson (http://blogs.edmontonjournal.com/2014/01/05/this-n-that/) states that teams are interested in both Evander Kane and Blake Wheeler from the Winnipeg Jets though the team would rather move pending unrestricted free agents Devin Setoguchi, Olli Jokinen and Mark Stuart. Dan The Man Larry Brooks of the New York Post (http://nypost.com/2014/01/06/sather-must...st-for-rangers/) writes that New York Rangers defenceman Dan Girardi could be a valuable trade asset at the deadline. He believes the Boston Bruins, Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks could all be possible landing spots for the impending unrestricted free agent. Rangers captain Ryan Callahan, who is also going to be a UFA in the offseason, could also be in play. Desert Storming Craig Morgan of Fox Sports (http://msn.foxsports.com/arizona/story/i...-coyotes-010414) reports that the Phoenix Coyotes could be ready to start making moves. "Im sure (general manager) Don (Maloney) and I will talk the next couple of days," said Coyotes coach Dave Tippett on Saturday. "Weve got to evaluate where we are and where we want to get to." He speculates that a physical defenceman or left winger could be the best fits to add to the roster. Standing Pat? Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (http://triblive.com/sports/penguins/5330...s#axzz2pd10FEbp) mentions that Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Ray Shero is unlikely to rent players at the deadline. Despite that, the Penguins GM has not ruled out making additions to his roster before the playoff stretch. "A lot can happen between now and then," said Shero. "But I like our team. I dont feel like we have to do something." Rossi also reports that Shero has not spoken to Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff about the availability of Evander Kane, contrary to rumours. Beantown Blueliner? Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald reports that with the Boston Bruins losing defenceman Dennis Seidenberg for the season, they will be in the market for a new blueliner. His report includes a list of possible impending free agents that could be targeted in a trade including Buffalo Sabres blueliner Henrik Tallinder, Ottawa Senators defenceman Chris Phillips and more. Dante Fabbro Jersey . -- Derek Jeter says the New York Yankees have no choice but to move forward now that Alex Rodriguez has accepted his suspension for the 2014 season. Ryan Ellis Jersey . LOUIS -- The Tampa Bay Rays have placed right-handed pitcher Joel Peralta on the 15-day disabled list with an undisclosed illness. http://www.officialpredatorsproshop.com/Predators-Calle-Jarnkrok-Adidas-Jersey/ . According to a report from ESPN, the veteran safety has signed another one-year deal with the team Raiders, the team that drafted him, and who he returned to last year after a long stint with the Green Bay Packers.Jacob Lindgren, the New York Yankees top selection, is ready for whatever pitching role his new organization has in store. The Yankees took Lindgren in the second round with the 55th overall pick Thursday night. New York hasnt told Lindgren whether they project the 5-foot-11, 203-pound pitcher from Bay St. Louis, Mississippi as a starter or reliever. "Its hard to make the big league club," Lindgren said. "Im sure the Yankees will do a good job monitoring" progress at each level to see where he fits best. Lindgren was a talented high-school pitcher taken in the 12th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft by the Chicago Cubs, yet chose college ball over the pros. He worked mostly in relief his freshman year before earning a spot in the Bulldogs rotation to start his sophomore season. Lindgren, though, was inconsistent and Mississippi State coaches moved him back to the bullpen where he said something finally clicked. Lindgren became more aggressive in late-inning situations, he said, and that helped the speed on his fastball improve from the upper 80s-lower 90s to mid-90s this season. He refined that at the Cape Cod League last summer and brought that new mindset to the Bulldogs bullpen. "My stuff was just playing out better," he said. "And I feel like its worked out." That showed in his performance as Lindgren was one of the best relievers in the Southeastern Conference. He led the country with more than 16 strikeouts over nine innings this season. Roman Josi Jersey. His 100 strikeouts this year was tops among all relievers in Division I and his draft status perked up. "I knew my junior year was going to be a huge year for me because I had a lot to prove," he said. "Thats why I worked hard." Lindgren had heard from many clubs including the Yankees prior to the draft, but didnt have a strong feeling about where hed end up. He grew up a Minnesota Twins fan, but "everybody dreams of playing for the New York Yankees and wearing the pinstripes," he said. Mississippi States season ended last weekend, losing in NCAA regional play to top-ranked Louisiana-Lafayette. Lindgren came on early in the final game Monday and worked 4 1/3 innings of three-hit ball, but it wasnt enough in the Rajun Cajuns 5-3 victory. The Yankees took pitchers with their first five selections, including Lindgrens Mississippi State teammate Jonathan Holder in the sixth round Friday. They also selected Connecticut high-schooler Austin DeCarr in the third round, South Carolina lefty starter Jordan Montgomery in the fourth and Central Michigan right-hander Jordan Foley in the fifth. Lindgrens selection carries a slot bonus value of $1,018,700. He doesnt expect holdups in reaching a deal and hopes to get that wrapped up as quickly as possible and begin helping the Yankees win games. He said baseball is about winning championships and "hopefully, we can bring one back to New York."
