PHILADELPHIA -- As word spread through NBA inner circles that Kansas prospect Joel Embiid suffered a foot injury, the Philadelphia 76ers wondered if his misfortune was just the break the downtrodden franchise needed. Elgin Baylor Jersey . "I sniffed opportunity," Sam Hinkie, the teams president and general manager, said Friday. "The moment he got hurt, we thought we might get him. We might be just the organization with just the set of owners, and we might be the one to do it." When the 7-foot centre was available at three, the Sixers pounced, even though he could miss up to a full season because of a broken foot. The 76ers are used to big men sitting out the season. Former All-Star centre Andrew Bynum never played a second because of bad knees in 2012-13. And rookie Nerlens Noel sat out all of last season because of a torn ACL. Noel, the No. 6 overall pick out of Kentucky, was antsy to play toward the end of a 19-63 season. The Sixers refused to rush him, not wanting to risk additional injury in what was always planned as a lost -- or, tanked -- season. Embiid recovery from a stress fracture in his right foot could take five to eight months. So will the Sixers play him in another season where the Sixers are building again toward a high lottery pick instead of a post-season berth? "Guess what our approach will be," Hinkie said, smiling. "Well focus on the long-term health of the player." Embiid wont be Philadelphias only lottery pick sitting out next season. Croatian forward Dario Saric, the 10th overall pick, signed a three-year deal last week to play in Turkey. The Sixers hold the rights to the 6-foot-10, 230-pounder for the next three years, and it could be that long until he plays for Philly. By the time hes set to join the Sixers, the organization hoped a playoff berth would be within reach. Hinkie said the Noel-Embiid frontcourt will be a "menace" at the rim. Coach Brett Brown was already drawing up plays for the duo -- Xs and Os hell have plenty of time to perfect. "I do think that Joel and Nerlens can co-exist," Brown said. "I think I can find a way to play those two guys together. Its a really good problem to have." Hinkie credited Philly fans for their "patience and understanding" for another lean season where the best outcome would be a No. 1 draft pick and not a seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Outside of rookie of the year Michael Carter-Williams and veteran forward Thaddeus Young, the Sixers have few other credible players, and will likely stack the roster again with D-League castoffs and 10-day contract stopgaps. "Its not even close to demoralizing," Brown said. Brown tried his best at an optimistic spin on the seasons ahead. Knowing the security of three more years left on his contract makes it easier to wait for a project like Embiid. The versatile 7-foot Embiid had a fantastic freshman season with the Jayhawks, averaging 11.2 points and 8.1 rebounds while blocking 72 shots to earn Big 12 defensive player of the year honours. Embiid, who grew up playing soccer and volleyball, only decided to pursue basketball a few years ago. He started to blossom as a senior at The Rock School and ultimately chose to attend Kansas, where he arrived with less fanfare than fellow freshmen Andrew Wiggins and Wayne Selden. Embiid hurt his back while landing awkwardly during a game late in the season, and missed the Jayhawks final two regular-season games and the Big 12 tournament. He also missed a victory over Eastern Kentucky and a season-ending loss to Stanford in the NCAA tournament, after which he said that he would have been able to play had Kansas advanced to the second weekend. Hinkie said the Sixers consulted various doctors and felt confident there was little long-term risk to his health once the foot healed. Embiid was projected as Clevelands No. 1 overall pick before the draft. The honour went to Wiggins. "In this scenario, and only this scenario, does he fall to three," Hinkie said. "If he can remain healthy, he can have a fantastic, fantastic NBA career." Notes: 76ers G Jason Richardson exercised the $6.6 million player option for next season and will return. The 7-foot C Byron Mullens declined his $1.1 million option and will become a free agent. Larry Nance Jr. Jersey . Dont miss a single shot, live on TSN beginning at 7pm et/4pm pt. Winners of their last eight games, the Heat return to Toronto for the second time in the month of November. After beginning the season 4-3, allowing 100.9 points on 47 per cent shooting, Miamis resurgent defence has vaulted them back to the top of a weak Eastern Conference. Kyle Kuzma Jersey . - Robert Griffin III has a sprained throwing shoulder that limited him in practice Wednesday as the Washington Redskins prepared for their season finale against the Dallas Cowboys. http://www.lakersbasketballshop.com/Robert-Horry-Jersey/ .com) - Bradley Beal deposited a season-high 33 points and John Wall posted another double-double as the Washington Wizards went on the road and beat the Houston Rockets, 104-103.DENVER -- Matt Kemp and Josh Beckett made sure the Los Angeles Dodgers had plenty to celebrate heading into their showdown with the Detroit Tigers. Kemp had four hits and drove in two runs, and Beckett tossed five scoreless innings and chipped in with a double as the Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies 8-2 on Sunday. Adrian Gonzalez had three RBIs and Juan Uribe added three hits for the Dodgers, who won three of four in the weekend series. They head to AL Central-leading Detroit in first place in the NL West, a half-game ahead of San Francisco. "To win the first two and then lose yesterday, if you dont win today then youve had a negative series in my mind," manager Don Mattingly said. All-Star rosters were unveiled during the game, and the Dodgers were well-represented with four players. Right fielder Yasiel Puig was voted in as a starter, and second baseman Dee Gordon made it as a reserve. Starting pitchers Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke were also picked. "Im really excited I get to do it again, really excited for Puig and Dee, the first-time guys, and with Greinke," Kershaw said. "Ive never gotten to go with four of my own teammates before, so thats pretty cool." Beckett was left off the National League roster. Kershaw is a candidate to start the game, but said hes just happy to be going for the fourth time. "Id love to do it," Kershaw said. "Obviously, there are a ton of great candidates. Ill be fine either way. Definitely (would) be something cool to do." Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, an All-Star starter with an NL-best 5.3 million votes, scored both runs for the Rockies. Charlie Blackmon was named to the team as a reserve outfielder. "That has some extra meaning," Tulowitzki said. "A couple years Ive been chosen by the players and thats always an honour. This year the fans really stepped up and really supported me." Colorado was 26-20 on May 20 but has lost 17 of 20 to fall to within a half-game of last place in the NL West. The Rockies are 5-15 at Coors Field since June 3. Beckett (6-5) allowed three hits before leaving after aggravating his sore left hip while running the bases in the fifth. "It was the start and stop. I just kind of tweakked it," he said. Michael Cooper Jersey. Its been bothering me for a few weeks." Dodgers starters had gone 39 consecutive games with two or fewer walks allowed, but that streak ended when Beckett walked three. Hyun-Jin Ryu was the last Los Angeles starter to walk more than two when he had five on May 26. "I knew if it got to me it was going to end," Beckett said. "I dont have the stuff to pitch here and not peck around the strike zone." Beckett made up for ending the streak with a one-out double that started a five-run fifth. Gordon singled and Puig walked to load the bases. Gonzalez had a two-run single, Kemp followed with an RBI single and Scott Van Slyke walked. "Josh was good and gets us going with his bat," Mattingly said. "That double really gets us going." Uribe singled to third off reliever Brooks Brown, scoring Gonzalez on a play at the plate. Umpire Jeff Kellogg called Gonzalez out, but it was overturned after a review that took 1 minute, 28 seconds. Brown hit Miguel Rojas with a pitch to score Kemp and make it 5-0. "We swung the bats well, put up some runs for Beckett," Kemp said. "It was a good offensive series for us." Colorado left-hander Yohan Flande (0-2) allowed five runs in 4 1-3 innings. "He was throwing the ball well and then he ran into some trouble in the fifth," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "Until that point he had been pretty much cruising." The Rockies scored an unearned run in the sixth off reliever Chris Perez and another off Brian Wilson in the eighth. Kemps fourth hit of the day capped a three-run eighth that made it 8-1. NOTES: Rockies 1B Justin Morneau is on the Internet ballot for the final NL All-Star spot. ... Rojas left the game with a bruised right forearm. X-rays were negative. ... The Dodgers placed INF Erisbel Arruebarrena on the 15-day disabled list with a right hip flexor strain and recalled infielder Carlos Triunfel from Triple-A Albuquerque. ... The Rockies placed RHP Nick Masset on the 15-day DL with a left patellar tendon strain and recalled Brown from Triple-A Colorado Springs. ...
