PORTLAND, Ore. ETwaun Moore Pelicans Jersey . -- It took one more day than they wouldve liked, but the Edmonton Oil Kings are Western Hockey League champions for the second time in three seasons. Four different Oil Kings scored in a decisive second period as Edmonton won Game 7 of the WHL final 4-2 over the Portland Winterhawks. In Sundays Game 6 in Edmonton, the Oil Kings watched a three-goal lead evaporate in the third period before losing 6-5 in overtime. Edmonton again built a three-goal lead through two periods on Monday, and didnt let this one get away. Mitch Moroz, Curtis Lazar, Reid Petryk and Mads Eller all scored in a four-goal second period for the Oil Kings and Goaltender Tristan Jarry stopped 32 shots in victory. Oliver Bjorkstrand and Brendan Leipsic scored for Portland, which got 29 saves from goalie Brendan Burke. As the Oil Kings celebrated on the ice after the game at Veterans Memorial Coliseum, they held the No. 26 jersey of Kristians Pelss, a former teammate who drowned last summer at age 20. "Hes been with us through this whole thing," said Lazar. "He motivates us to make ourselves better. We know hes looking over us, we played for him and it showed." Bjorkstrand scored his league-leading 16th goal of the playoffs- but his first of the final series- at 4:42 of the first to give the Winterhawks a 1-0 lead. "They came at us hard for 10 minutes but we weathered the storm," said Edmonton coach Derek Laxdal, who won a Memorial Cup championship as a player with the Winterhawks in the same building in 1983. "I told the guys I won a championship here and I wanted them to do it, too." The Oil Kings busted out in the second period, scoring three times in less than six minutes to take command. Moroz scored at the 3:50 mark of the period to tie the game, then Lazar and Petryk scored 40 seconds apart near the midway point of the period to make it 3-1. "We actually got kick-started with us taking a penalty," said Lazar. "We wanted to kill it off, and it actually led to some offence and we just kept rolling." Ellers goal with 2:43 left in the period gave the Oil Kings their second consecutive three-goal lead through two periods. Leipsic scored with 3:22 left in regulation, but the Winterhawks couldnt pull off a second unlikely comeback in two days. "We talked that the sun was going to come up today and our energy would come up, too," said Laxdal. "We tried to motivate our guys all day. Our guys were gutsy." The Oil Kings are off to the Memorial Cup, which begins Friday in London, Ont. This was the third straight year Edmonton and Portland have met in the WHL final series. The Oil Kings prevailed in seven games in 2012, while the Winterhawks won in six games last season. Portland appeared in the WHL finals for the fourth straight season, but dropped to 1-3 in those series. "Itll always hang there, that disappointment," said Portland coach Mike Johnston. "Eventually well look back at our records and conference and division championships, but we were so close to tasting victory. "We know how hard it is to move on, were fortunate to have had some cracks at it the last few years." Anthony Davis Jersey . -- The NFL cancelled its Hall of Fame game between St. Jrue Holiday Jersey . "This doesnt end anything," he said. "Weve got 10-1 in our last 11 games, and were going home in first place. We just have to keep playing the way we are right now. http://www.shoppelicansonline.com/Customized/ .Mack, a reserve guard who came in averaging 3.8 points, made all six of his 3-pointers as the Hawks went 16 for 28 from behind the arc.Trailing 50-38 midway through the second quarter, Atlanta outscored Cleveland 89-48 the rest of the way and sent the Cavaliers to their largest loss of the season. Is there a Premier League fan base that has been on more of an emotional rollercoaster ride for the last few years than Arsenals? For 80 minutes on Saturday, Arsenal fans were ruing the lack of a “world class” goal scorer, chastising manager Arsene Wenger for failing to address this shortcoming during the transfer window. Trailing 2-0 away to Everton, Arsenal looked on course for yet another failure on the road against a top-five team – venues at which they had not won in their previous 14 attempts, taking only three points from a possible 42. It wasnt just the lack of a natural predator that saw Wenger come under fire; most Gunners feel that the absence of a proven goal scorer, along with a dominant holding midfielder and a commanding central defender is preventing Arsenal from being genuine title challengers this season. Yet the narrative shifted from “we just arent good enough” to “we have tremendous character!” in the final 10 minutes on Saturday. First, Aaron Ramsey side-footed home a teasing cross from second-half substitute Santi Cazorla in the 83rd minute to bring Arsenal to within a goal. Then, in the 90th minute, halftime substitute Olivier Giroud headed home the equalizer from a Nacho Monreal cross. Arsenal fans went from agony to ecstasy in just seven minutes. Despite the result – and many will argue that the draw was down to Evertons inability to kill off the game rather than anything special from Arsenal – the murmurs of discontent will continue for Gunners fans. Olivier Giroud is someone that should be leading the line for Arsenal. I cannot understand why some Arsenal fans do not rate him; he holds the ball up well, bringing Arsenals wealth of midfield talent into play, is an aerial threat and a physical presence, but most importantly, he scores goals. Last season, only five players in the Premier League (Suarez, Sturridge, Toure, Aguero and Rooney) scored more than Girouds 16 league goals. Does Arsenal need another striker to challenge Giroud for a place in the starting lineup? Absolutely – especially if the injury he sustained in the closing minutes of Saturdays game keeps him out for any length of time. But suggesting that Giroud isnt up to the job of being the main man is wide of the mark. More pressing for me is Arsenals lack of power in midfield. One of my favourite teams in the Premier League era was Wengers “Invincibles” – the team that won the Premier League in 2003-04 without ssuffering a single defeat. New Orleans Pelicans Jerseys. While Arsenal teams have always placed a premium on style, that team also had the steel needed to win the title. Look at the spine of that team: Jens Lehmann in goal, Sol Campbell and Kolo Toure at the back, Patrick Vieira and Gilberto in midfield and Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp up top. Just the thought of lining up against that team made opponents shudder, because not only could they play, they were also horrible to play against. That doesnt mean that they ran about simply kicking everything that moved – far from it. It meant that they didnt shirk challenges when they needed to be made, nor do they shirk responsibility when their team needed them to deliver. Henry was never renowned for his tackling ability or for his toughness, but anyone who watched him play for Arsenal would agree that he had ice running through his veins. When it mattered most for Arsenal, he delivered. The same can be said for Bergkamp. In midfield, Vieira had the combination of size, strength, talent and personality that the current Arsenal midfield is most lacking. There isnt a player in Wengers 2014 Arsenal team that even remotely resembles Vieira, and this is where I feel Wengers transfer dealings have fallen short. The additions of Alexis Sanchez, Calum Chambers and Mathieu Debuchy have been good ones for Arsenal, as all three are likely to be heavily involved in Arsenals starting lineup this year. But none of them addresses the most pressing deficiency in Wengers squad - an all-around midfielder in the mould of Vieira. I can live with the three central defenders that Arsenal currently has on the books: Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Chambers. But Wenger is faced with a big decision as the end of the transfer window looms: Does he spend big on a holding midfielder and look to add another striker, or does he stay put with what he has. The fact that Wenger hasnt already addressed these deficiencies suggests that he is more likely to take the latter decision than the former. But unfortunately for Gunners fans, this will effectively keep them out of the title chase, as they lack the key ingredients required for a genuine championship push. I simply cannot see an Arsenal side with Mikel Arteta or Mathieu Flamini as the holding midfielder winning the Premier League title. Yet another rollercoaster ride is on the cards for Arsenal supporters this season, Im afraid. Close enough to dream of the trophy, but not close enough to touch it. ' ' '
