MONTREAL - No one needs to tell Troy Smith or Kevin Glenn they have to step up their games following disappointing Week 1 losses in which both quarterbacks struggled as the Alouettes welcome the Lions to Montreal for their home opener. Ed Oliver Jersey .The Heisman Trophy-winner replacing future Hall of Famer Anthony Calvillo at quarterback completed fewer than half his passes as the Montreal Alouettes offence fired blanks in its CFL season opener last week in Calgary.Smith hopes to start clicking with his receivers and moving the ball when the Alouettes (0-1) take on the B.C. Lions (0-1) in a bounce-back game for both teams at Percival Molson Stadium on Friday night. It falls on my shoulders as a quarterback, said Smith, who put up only 154 passing yards in a 29-8 loss to the Stampeders. I have to do a better job of decision-making and distributing the ball.We have weapons all over the field, but if we dont protect and get the ball out on time, these weapons mean nothing. So its on me.The Lions 35-year-old pivot Kevin Glenn may be thinking the same. His team took an early 14-0 lead but he then threw four interceptions in a 27-20 loss to the Edmonton Eskimos. It was only the third time the Lions lost at home since 2011.And this week the Lions go into the game with the virtually unknown Ryan Cave playing the key position on the offensive line, left tackle. Cave was rushed in this week after Andre Ramsey fractured an ankle, Cave had only two practices with his new team. The upside is that Cave spent most of training camp with the Alouettes and knows the players he will be trying to block.Everyone knows theres a new guy on the offensive line whos had two days of practice, but hes a very intelligent guy, very football smart, said Glenn. Hes picked up the scheme and blocking assignments very quickly.Well see what happens in a game but I have confidence hell do well. The Alouettes got a break on Thursday when CFL disciplinarians elected to give linebacker Kyries Hebert a fine rather than a suspension for his clothesline tackle on Calgarys Jon Cornish. So the stage is set for yet another in a long history of close battles between the Alouettes and Lions in Montreal. Last season, a last-play Sean Whyte field goal gave Montreal a 39-38 win.B.C. coach Mike Benevides played film of that game to his players as a reminder. What happened last year was BS, said Benevides. We had multiple turnovers and didnt score off it.We became unglued somewhat and, at the end of the game, theres a quarterback that hadnt played a lot (Tanner Marsh) who finds a way to get into field goal range and beat you. You cant let that happen.Smith was tabbed as the Alouettes starter going into their first season since 2000 without CFL al-time passing leader Calvillo behind centre. He had an impressive array of receivers led by S.J. Green, but wasnt able to find them consistently, often overthrowing them. The teams lone touchdown by running back Steven Lumbala came on the final play of the game after pair of Calgary roughing calls put the ball on the one.More reps, more practice, was Smiths answer to what he needs to find his groove. As a quarterback, I think staring down the eye of adversity and understanding that only you can surface yourself out should be fun.Anybody who is worth their weight in marbles would not want to dig themselves into a situation like this, but would love to dig themselves out.How long first-year coach Tom Higgins will stick with Smith if the offence doesnt click remains to be seen. Marsh is the backup, and third stringer Alex Brink has CFL experience. When asked about it, Higgins didnt rule it out. But he expects that Smith only needs time and experience with CFL football to succeed.I dont know if were going to a two-quarterback system, he said. Im hoping thats not the case. But Troy has been under pressure before. Its about production. Its about us giving him an opportunity to be successful. I think we have the ability to run the football. We need to do that. We need to get the ball out of Troys hand quicker in certain situations, but also give him an opportunity to air the ball out.The Alouettes will be without key receiver Duran Carter, as well as safety Mike Edem, with ankle injuries. The Lions have started the season without No. 1 quarterback Travis Lulay, who is on the six-game injured list with a shoulder injury. The 35-year-old Glenn completed 18 of 28 passes for 251 yards against the Eskimos, including 102 yards to Andrew Harris.Cutting down on turnovers will be the top priority, although that will be a challenge against a ball-hungry Montreal defence.Theyre an attack defence, said Glenn. They come after you. They want to disrupt the offence and cause turnovers, and thats one thing we learned last week, that we cant turn the ball over and win.Former Lions defensive end Chris Wilson will likely line up across from Cave, but linebackers like Hebert and Chip Cox will no doubt also test the newcomer as he tries to play one of the most difficult positions on the field with little practice time.Benevides is confident the six-foot-five 345-pound Cave wont be trampled. With the challenge a very good Montreal defence presents, at least his advantage is that hes seen those men and what they can do, said Benevides. Yeah, its not an ideal world to have a professional player playing after two days with the program, but thats the challenge we have to face.Hes done a good job. Hes a smart player, a big player. In three days of knowing him, I like him a lot.Note to readers: CORRECTS Smiths passing yards to 154 sted 148 in fourth graf. Doug Flutie Womens Jersey .com) - Matt Beleskey has helped give the Anaheim Ducks some scoring depth and hell look to stay hot on Wednesday night when his club hosts the struggling Philadelphia Flyers. Bruce Smith Jersey . The 23-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., defeated Germanys Benjamin Becker 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday in the fourth round of the Sony Open in just 89 minutes. http://www.shoptheofficialbills.com/Elite-Jordan-Poyer-Bills-Jersey/ . -- Raiders wide receiver Jacoby Ford made it through a third straight practice without any setbacks and expects to play in Oaklands regular-season finale against San Diego.WINNIPEG - Rookie Mossis Madu ran 22 yards for his first CFL touchdown as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 16-11 Saturday for their first road win of the season. Madu, replacing running back C.J. Gable whos on the six-game injured list, scored after the Bombers had turned the ball over on a blocked punt in the second quarter. The victory extended the Ticats win streak to three games and put them in a first-place tie atop the East Division standings at 5-8 with the Montreal Alouettes. The Bombers have lost four straight and sit last in the West Division at 6-7. Winnipeg rallied with about six minutes left in the game, trying to repeat an early-season comeback when it defeated Hamilton 27-26 on July 31 with a two-yard touchdown pass to Nic Grigsby on the final play of the game. Quarterback Drew Willy began the late drive completing a 29-yard pass to Romby Bryant and a 20-yard pass Grigsby before slotback Cory Watson caught a five-yard touchdown pass in the end zone with 5:52 remaining. A two-point convert failed with an incomplete pass to Watson in front of 28,534 fans at Investors Group Field. After the following kickoff and a Hamilton penalty, the Tiger-Cats started at their own nine-yard line. Two plays later, Hamilton had to punt, but Winnipeg defensive back Don Unamba was called for contacting kicker Justin Medlock. Hamilton then got a first down and started from its own 25-yard line, but couldnt add to their lead. With 2:04 remaining, Winnipeg started its last drive from its own 23-yard line. A couple of Hamilton penalties helped the Bombers get to mid-field. Willy guided the offence down to Hamiltons three-yard line with 16 seconds left, but on third down with three yards to go he threw an incomplete pass into the end zone that wasnt near any receiver. The Tiger-Cats have won four of their last five games, a run thats come after quarterback Zach Collaros returned after missing five games with concussion-like symptoms. Willy, playing after injuring his throwing shoulder Sept. 13, took some punishing hits that had him getting up slowly a few times. He was sacked four times in the first half, twice by defensive lineman Ted Laurent and once by linemates Eric Norwood and Justin Hickman. Willy was also knocked to the turf a number of times, but finished the game completing 27-of-41 pass attempts for 303 yards and a TD. Collaros, who was sacked twice in the first half, was 20 of 36 for 182 yards. Medlock made field goals from 44, 37 and 39 yards, but went wide from 47 yards out. Winnipeg scored off a safety when Collaros was sacked in the end zone by defensive lineman Bryant Turner. Lirim Hajrullahhu connected on a field goal from 20 yards. O. J. Simpson Jersey. The Tiger-Cats led 10-5 at halftime. Hamiltons game-opening drive was kept alive with a Winnipeg pass-interference penalty and ended with Medlocks 44-yarder at 3:31 to make it 3-0. The teams sputtered for much of the first quarter, with Winnipeg twice starting drives deep in its own end and Hamilton unable to capitalize on its good field position. The Bombers didnt cross mid-field until time was winding down on the first quarter. Turners sack of Collaros in the end zone for a safety made it 3-2 at 1:04 of the second quarter. The Bombers then turned the ball over when Hajrullahu took a snap that bounced in front of him, quickly kicked the ball and had it blocked by Hamilton defensive back Ed Gainey. Receiver Samuel Giguere recovered the ball and the Ticats took over at Winnipegs 31-yard line. Madu ran for nine yards and then weaved 22 yards through Bomber defenders for his first touchdown at 4:53 to make it 10-2. The Bombers followed up with a nine-play, 66-yard drive capped off by Hajrullahus 20-yarder, but it was a tough stretch for Willy. He was knocked to the ground by defensive tackle Bryan Hall, drawing a roughing-the-passer penalty. Willy looked sore getting up, and it wasnt helped when Hall also tackled him hard later in the same drive. Hajrullahu made it 10-5 with his 20-yard field goal at 10:25. Norwood also went in untouched and barrelled into Willy as he was releasing the ball. Norwood had a career-high four sacks in Hamiltons 25-23 win over Edmonton last week. The Ticats extended their lead to 13-5 at 2:19 of the second quarter with a four-play, 15-yard drive that Medlock finished with his 37-yard field goal. Willy was also sacked by linebacker Simoni Lawrence in the third quarter. Following a poor punt into the wind by Hajrullahu, Hamilton took over at Winnipegs 48-yard line. The Bombers defence didnt allow them to take advantage of the good field position and Medlock tried a 47-yard field-goal attempt, but went wide left and the Bombers brought it out. The Ticats led 13-5 heading into the four quarter. With just under 11 minutes to go, it appeared like Winnipeg had recovered a Hamilton fumble after receiver Greg Ellingson couldnt hang onto a pass, but the incomplete-pass ruling on the field was upheld despite Bombers head coach Mike OShea challenging the call. Winnipeg looked to pick up some momentum when Troy Stoudermire took a punt return 51 yards to Hamiltons 47-yard line, but the Bombers couldnt come away with any offensive surge and ended up punting. Willy then engineered the scoring drive that ended with Watsons touchdown at 9:08. ' ' '
