record with a ninth straight win on Sunday Chad Thomas Color Rush Jersey , J.J. Watt was asked to reflect on how far the team has come in the past year.“I was on the couch a year ago so this is a lot better,” said Watt, who missed the last 11 games of Houston’s 4-12 2017 season with a broken leg. “I was in a lot of pain. So it’s good for us to be winning … this is what it’s supposed to feel like. Honestly this is how you dream it up.”Deshaun Watson threw a touchdown pass and the Texans intercepted rookie Baker Mayfield three times, returning one for a score, to get the 29-13 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday that extended the streak. The Texans (9-3), who opened the season 0-3, haven’t lost since Sept. 23 to take a commanding lead atop the AFC South. While they appreciate what they’ve done to turn things around, they’re quick to note that they still have plenty of work left to do.“It means a lot especially from where we came from 0-3 … but it’s not the Super Bowl so we’re still fighting,” receiver DeAndre Hopkins said.Houston raced out to a 23-0 halftime lead and added two second-half field goals by Ka’imi Fairbairn to give him five on Sunday.Mayfield, the top overall pick in this year’s draft, had his worst game of the season, throwing three interceptions for the first time since he was a freshman at Texas Tech in 2013. He entered the game having thrown nine touchdown passes with just one interception in the past three games as the Browns (4-7-1) won consecutive games for the first time since 2014.Mayfield lamented the mistakes he made in this one.“(If) I would’ve taken care of the ball, this game would’ve been very close,” he said.He finished with 397 yards passing and had a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter after throwing a career-best four in a win over the Bengals last week. Houston’s fearsome pass rush https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Antonio-Callaway-Jersey , led by Watt and Jadeveon Clowney didn’t sack Mayfield, but they hurried and harassed him for much of the day.His interceptions all came before halftime to help the Texans build the big early lead.“He probably wasn’t feeling too dangerous in the first half, but he was feeling a little more dangerous in the second half,” Watt said.Houston was up 3-0 after an early field goal when Watson, who finished with 224 yards, connected with rookie Jordan Thomas on an 11-yard touchdown pass. Hopkins set up that score when he made a 24-yard reception after T.J. Carrie grabbed his dreadlocks in an attempt to slow him down two plays earlier.Zach Cunningham made it 17-0 when he grabbed his first career interception and ran 38 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Officials first ruled him down at the 1, but the play was reviewed and changed to a touchdown.Kareem Jackson was called for a 47-yard pass interference penalty on Cleveland’s next drive to put the Browns at their 20. But Mayfield threw another interception two plays later and it was returned 18 yards by Johnathan Joseph.Houston added another field goal to make it 20-0 with about three minutes left in the second quarter.Mayfield’s third interception came late in the second quarter when Andre Hal grabbed the ball in the end zone.Lamar Miller had 103 yards rushing for his second straight 100-yard game and fourth of the season and Hopkins had seven receptions for 91 yards.Cleveland continued to struggle in late-season games, and the Browns fell to 9-39 in December and January games since 2008.Nick Chubb got the Browns on the board in the third quarter when his 2-yard TD run cut the lead to 23-7 with about 9½ minutes left. Rashard Higgins had a 17-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter, but the 2-point conversion failed to leave the Browns down 29-13.Houston added another field goal after that before a mistake-filled possession by the Browns. First Mayfield threw what looked to be a 76-yard touchdown pass to rookie Antonio Callaway, but it was brought back because of a holding penalty by left tackle Greg Robinson. Two plays later, Mayfield connected with Callaway again and he gained 71 yards before rookie Justin Reid chased him down from behind and knocked the ball out of his hands just before he would have scored. It bounced into the end zone where it was recovered by the Texans.“It was just trying to make something happen,” Reid said. “I didn’t want him to score so just make a play on the ball and see if it would come out. Good thing for us it did.”INJURIESCleveland cornerback Denzel Ward left in the first half with a concussion. … Browns defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi injured his biceps in the second quarter and didn’t return. … Joseph didn’t return after injuring his neck in the second quarter. … LB Brennan Scarlett injured his leg and didn’t return. … Houston offensive tackle Kendall Lamm left in the second half with a concussion.REMEMBERING PRESIDENT BUSHThe Texans observed a moment of silence before the game for former President George H.W. Bush, who died on Friday night in Houston at 94. Bush was a frequent visitor to Houston’s games and had participated in the coin toss at several contests. During the moment of silence pictures of Bush at various games were shown on the video screens flanked by huge 41’s made out of a collage of pictures as a further tribute to the nation’s 41st president.UP NEXTBrowns: Host the Panthers next Sunday.Texans: Host the Colts next Sunday. Terrelle Pryor’s career has not turned out the way he expected since leaving the Cleveland Browns in free agency. Now the 29-year-old wide receiver wishes he could turn back time.Pryor was a guest on The ThomaHawk show — hosted by former Browns players Joe Thomas and Andrew Hawkins — on Friday and said that “super agents” Drew and Jason Rosenhaus gave him bad advice when he hit free agency following the 2016 season.Pryor was coming off the only good season of his NFL career as he had 77 receptions for 1,007 yards and four touchdowns. (Although he needed 140 targets to hit that mark Britton Colquitt Jersey , making his catch rate of 55 percent pretty sub-par.)The Browns, who were the only team in the league to take a chance on Pryor after he washed out as a quarterback, offered Pryor a four-year contract worth $32 million. But Pryor let his agents convince him that teams would be lining up for his services, so he walked away from the Browns. The market for Pryor never materialized, leading him to sign a one-year deal with the Washington Redskins for $8 million. He only spent one year with the Redskins, catching 20 passes in nine games and dealing with an ankle injury, before moving on.Pryor spent last season with the New York Jets (14 receptions in six games) and the Buffalo Bills (two receptions in two games), but was ultimately released by both teams amid continued injury problems. He is now making the rounds trying to find a team willing to take a shot on him. On Friday, he told a Houston radio station that he believes the Pittsburgh Steelers should gamble on him, according to TribLive.com:It is unclear what experience that Pryor would bring to the Steelers, but how to successfully navigate free agency would certainly appear to be at the bottom of the list.It is unlikely that the Browns would have any interest in bringing Pryor back to the team as a free agent, given that just about everyone from the 2016 coaching staff is no longer with the team.

https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Dave-Robinson-Jersey , Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers set a record for most pass attempts without an interception. The TD was Rodgers’ 359th pass attempt without being picked off, surpassing the NFL mark of 358 set by New England’s Tom Brady in 2010 and into the first game of 2011. Rodgers’ streak now stands at 368 attempts; his last interception came in the second quarter of Week 4’s 22-0 win over Buffalo.Rodgers is still chasing Brady for another interception-less record, however — most consecutive games without throwing one.Brady went 11 games to close the 2010 regular season without throwing an interception. No other quarterback in NFL history (min. 10 attempts each game) has gone 10 games.Rodgers’ streak stands at nine — one of four QBs to have reach that number. The others: Cleveland’s Bernie Kosar in 1991, Washington’s Jason Campbell from 2007-08 and Kansas City’s Alex Smith in 2015.Six quarterbacks have a streak of eight games without an interception, including Oakland’s Derek Carr this season (and this streak is active). Rodgers, in 2016, is one of 10 QBs to have a streak of seven games without a pick.If the criteria is changed to just five attempts per game, the Packers’ Bart Starr has the record with 14 straight games without an interception, from Oct. 4, 1964-Oct. 3 Aaron Jones Jersey , 1965. Starr had at least 13 attempts in 13 of those games; the exception being a 24-14 loss to San Francisco when he completed just 1 of 5 passes — and it was a touchdown (Zeke Bratkowski played the majority of the game at QB). In addition, Cleveland’s Milt Plum had a streak of 11 games, which includes one game with eight pass attempts.Rodgers does own another NFL interception record, though — best career interception rate (1.5 percent). He’s only thrown the lone pick this season. The fewest interceptions for any quarterback with 400+ pass attempts and having played all 16 regular-season games is four, done by three QBs — Brady, Steve DeBerg and Dak Prescott.FEWEST INTERCEPTIONS IN A SEASON (MIN. 400 ATTEMPTS)QBTEAMYEARGATTINTAaron RodgersPackers2018134951Tom BradyPatriots2016124322Tom BradyPatriots2010164924Drew BreesSaints2018134154Steve DeBergChiefs1990164444Dak PrescottCowboys2016164594Tyrod TaylorBills2017154204Steve BartkowskiFalcons1983144325Sam BradfordVikings2016155525Aaron RodgersPackers2014165205Alex Smith49ers2011164455Alex SmithChiefs2017155055Even if you lower the attempts to 300 per season, no QB has thrown just one interception in a season. DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — For Ryan Tannehill, the pain persists. It hurts to throw, and it hurts not to play. The Miami Dolphins quarterback will rest his injured throwing shoulder for the next several days and has been ruled out of Sunday’s game at Green Bay Kenny Clark Color Rush Jersey , meaning replacement Brock Osweiler will make his fifth consecutive start. The Dolphins (5-4) have a bye next week. The goal is for Tannehill to return for the game at Indianapolis on Nov. 25, he and coach Adam Gase said. But Tannehill said his shoulder still hurts on every throw. And the bigger issue is a lack of arm strength.“The pain I can deal with,” he said Wednesday, speaking to the media for the first time since he was hurt Oct. 7. “It’s not just pushing through pain. It’s physically being able to get the ball where it needs to go.”After being hurt against Cincinnati, Tannehill rested his arm for 10 days and then began a throwing program. But every pass puts stress on the capsule, and the result when he threw was disappointing, Tannehill said.“It just wasn’t close to where it needs to be to do the job,” he said. With progress slow and uneven, the Dolphins decided more rest is best.“We haven’t had the jump that he was looking for,” Gase said. “That’s why we’re kind of taking a step back.”A step back sounds like setback https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Mason-Crosby-Jersey , but Tannehill said he’s confident he’ll play again this season — perhaps even at Indy.“It has been kind of a weird deal,” he said. “I’ll shut it back down, and we’ll see where we’re at next week.”The Dolphins have been hit hard by injuries this year. Gase said the status this week of tackles Laremy Tunsil and Ja’Wuan James, both nursing knee injuries, likely won’t be determined until shortly before the game. Both were limited in practice Wednesday.Tannehill said he expects to play through pain the rest of the year when he returns. There’s no indication surgery will be needed after the season, he said.Miami is 2-2 with Osweiler starting. The Packers game will be the 25th out of the past 30 that Tannehill has missed because of injuries.“Whenever you’re not able to play, it’s extremely hard,” he said. “Unfortunately it’s part of this business.”

manager Chris Ballard went virtually all in on defense in this year’s draft. He hopes the payoff is worth it.After watching the Colts improve from No. 30 in total defense in 2018 to No. 11 last season Reggie Wayne Color Rush Jersey , Ballard used seven of his first eight picks adding assets for second-year defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.“I guess now you understand what the plan was. Speed, competition on defense, plain and simple,” Ballard said. “We wanted to get athletic, fast players who fit our mold, which I think we accomplished.”Ballard did what he could to ensure the progression continues. The Colts haven’t produced back-to-back top-20 finishes in total defense since 2013 and 2014 and haven’t posted a top-10 ranking since 2004 when they were No. 4.Now, just months after Andrew Luck led the Colts back to the playoffs and was the overwhelming choice as the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year, Ballard invested heavily on the other side of the ball.“I feel a little defensive today,” team owner Jim Irsay joked as he entered the Colts’ media room. “We really thought those four picks we had on Friday were really, really game-changers for us to make us a better football team.”He didn’t just dip his toe into a deep pool of talented defenders — he dove in head first looking for players who could primarily pressure quarterbacks or hold up in pass coverage.Indy needed to get better in both areas, and Ballard did everything in his power to make it happen. Three times https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Rigoberto-Sanchez-Jersey , he swapped picks. He also traded veteran defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway to Philadelphia for an extra seventh-round choice, No. 246 overall.Ballard also took some calculated risks by selecting Ben Banogu, who played primarily defensive end at TCU. The Colts will try to convert him into a multi-positional linebacker. Indy also plans on using Southern California safety Marvin Tell III at cornerback. But if those experiments fail, Ballard figures the fallback options aren’t much of a gamble.“When I first took the job, I think I told you all we know we’re getting it right when we’re cutting guys and they’re going to play for other teams,” Ballard said. “When we get our roster to 65 and 54 to 65 is popping up in other places, I know we’re getting it right. We’re not there yet, but we’re a lot closer.”WHO THEY GOTThe defensive run began with cornerback Rock Ya-Sin early in the second round and didn’t stop until late in the final round of the draft Saturday. Along the way, the Colts selected three linebackers — Banogu, Bobby Okereke of Stanford, and E.J. Speed of Tarleton State — two safeties — Khari Willis of Michigan State and Tell — and defensive end Gerri Green of Mississippi State. The Colts took speedy receiver Parris Campbell late with their second-round pick and closed the draft by using seventh-round selections on tackle Jackson Barton of Utah and center Javon Patterson of Mississippi.SURPRISE MOVEColts fans were disappointed when Ballard sent the No. 26 overall pick to Washington for two second-rounders. But the selection of Speed Marlon Mack Jersey , who played at the Division II level, created the most intrigue. Speed was not a familiar name to most fans because he was not invited to the NFL scouting combine, didn’t play in any college all-star games and said he turned down chances to play at more Big 12 schools so he could be near his adopted brother, who was battling cancer.HOW THEY DIDBallard prefers substance to splash — and this was another draft that reflected his philosophy. Indy thinks Ya-Sin can be a lockdown cornerback, and Ballard filled his most glaring hole on the depth chart by choosing all those linebackers. He also found some depth for the offensive line and, perhaps most important, gave coach Frank Reich a dangerous deep threat who can create mismatches in multiple spots on the offense.WHAT’S NEXT?This weekend is only the start for Indianapolis, and Ballard knows it. Over the past two seasons, he’s plucked key contributors off the waiver wire (starting cornerback Pierre Desir and right guard Mark Glowinski), from other teams’ practice squads (center-guard Evan Boehm), and even off the street (safety Mike Mitchell). Plus Quenton Nelson Color Rush Jersey , the Colts have had at least one undrafted rookie make the roster out of training camp for 20 consecutive seasons — the longest active streak in the league. The first component came Saturday when Ballard announced Indy would pick up the fifth-year option on starting center Ryan Kelly. So expect Ballard to stay busy between now and the Sept. 8 season opener at the Los Angeles Chargers. The Indianapolis Colts released an injury report on Tuesday after their walkthrough practice, an estimation of what the participation of a player would’ve been for a normal practice, as they prepare for a divisional-round matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.Three wide receivers — Ryan Grant (toe), T.Y. Hilton (ankle) and Dontrelle Inman (shoulder/finger) and three safeties — Clayton Geathers (knee), Malik Hooker (foot) and Mike Mitchell (calf) were estimated to have been out. Grant was the only to miss last week’s game against Houston, but Mitchell was knocked out of the Wild Card game after aggravating an injury he’s dealt with for the second half of the season.Defensive linemen Denico Autry (shoulder), Tyquan Lewis (knee) and Jabaal Sheard (knee), and tight end Eric Ebron were the other four players estimated to have sat. Lewis was injured in the regular-season finale against Tennessee and missed the opening playoff game, while Autry Sheard and Ebron all played. Two Colts were also estimated as limited participants, as linebacker Darius Leonard is dealing with shoulder and ankle issues and cornerback J.J. Wilcox is continuing to nurse an ankle injury that kept him sidelined during the Colts’ win over Houston.

L.J. Collier Jersey , and this time the San Francisco 49ers young backup QB got the win over the Seattle Seahawks. Or at least, that’s one potential narrative. To discuss that and more, I was joined again by John Morgan on the Instant Reaction podcast to discuss Seattle’s 26-23 loss to the 49ers in OT. We talk about remaining playoff scenarios, what to be worried about and what to look forward to in the weeks (and years) ahead, and why you shouldn’t feel too bad. The Seahawks are likely headed to the playoffs and in most eras of the franchise, that was not a strong possibility. Things may not feel great, but trust me Gary Jennings Jr. Jersey , there is optimism in this show!EPISODE LINKThis episode is brought to you by our sponsors at Injury Legal Center. If you’d like to support the show, and get future episodes, they are available to supporters at the $2 per month level. We have Mina Kimes of ESPN on last week and will be previewing the Kansas City Chiefs ahead. RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Jack Patera, the first head coach in the history of the Seattle Seahawks, has died at age 85.Patera died on Wednesday, the team said. The cause of death was not clear http://www.theseahawksfanshop.com/Phil-Haynes-Jersey , but Patera had been battling pancreatic cancer.“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Jack Patera and extend our utmost sympathies and condolences to the Patera family,” read a statement from the Seahawks.“We will remember coach Patera most for his big heart, sense of humor and genuine spirit.”Patera was Seattle’s head coach for parts of seven seasons, beginning with the team’s inaugural season in 1976. Patera’s best seasons came in 1978-79 when the Seahawks went 9-7 in consecutive years, but failed to make the playoffs. Patera was named the NFL coach of the year in 1978 when the Seahawks missed the playoffs by one game.Seattle never reached the postseason until 1983. Patera was fired after starting the 1982 season 0-2 and finished his career as a head coach with a 35-59 record. Before joining the Seahawks, Patera was an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Rams, New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings. Patera also had a seven-year playing career with the Baltimore Colts Ugo Amadi Jersey , Chicago Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys between 1955-61.Former Seahawks quarterback Jim Zorn tweeted that his favorite memories of Patera included the fact the head coach liked to be called Jack, and the Seahawks always had a fake field goal in the game plan.“If you called him ‘coach,’ he would call you ‘player.'” Zorn wrote.Current Seattle coach Pete Carroll said when former players from the early days of the Seahawks returned for alumni events Patera’s impact was obvious.“He was a great coach, great human,” Carroll said. The guys who played for him really loved playing for him. … He was really important to all those guys and a lot of people. We’ll miss him.”

BEREA https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Antonio-Callaway-Jersey , Ohio (AP) — Mike McCarthy’s connections with the Browns could land him his next job.Dumped by Green Bay on Sunday after 13 seasons, a Super Bowl win and amid a seemingly growing rift with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, McCarthy’s candidacy to become Cleveland’s next coach has gotten more legitimate. The 55-year-old McCarthy was already being mentioned as a possibility for the Browns, who dismissed Hue Jackson last month and will wait until after the season before hiring his full-time replacement. As far as center JC Tretter is concerned, the Browns couldn’t go wrong with McCarthy.“I’ve always enjoyed working with Mike McCarthy,” said Tretter, who played four seasons under McCarthy before signing as a free agent with Cleveland in 2017. “I think what he has done in his career in Green Bay has been extraordinary. I think he’s a great man, too. I don’t have a bad thing to say about Mike McCarthy. He was really an awesome leader and an awesome coach.”McCarthy is no stranger to the Browns.General manager John Dorsey, who has revamped Cleveland’s roster and is leading the team’s coaching search, spent 21 years as an executive in Green Bay and helped hire McCarthy. Browns assistant GM Eliot Wolf, son of former Packers GM Ron Wolf, worked in Green Bay’s scouting department for 14 years, and vice president of player personnel Alonzo Highsmith was with the Packers for 19 years before he was hired by Dorsey.Tretter said he can’t provide any more information to Cleveland’s executives about McCarthy than they have already.“They know enough upstairs,” Tretter said. “They got Eliot and Alonzo and they’ve got other guys from the Green Bay organization. I don’t think I can bring anything more to the table than they already know. They were with him longer than I was and they were upstairs with him more than I was downstairs with him, so I think they know everything they need to know. I’m just looking forward to seeing the direction we go with this team.”Dorsey hasn’t revealed much about his plans to hire Cleveland’s 17th full-time coach — and sixth in the past 10 years.Interim coach Gregg Williams, who took over for Jackson Britton Colquitt Jersey , will be interviewed; Dorsey has not disclosed who else is on his list. Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley has been mentioned as a possible candidate along with Kansas City offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Minnesota offensive coordinator John DeFilippo, and New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels among the most prominent names being mentioned. It will be tough for any candidate to have a resume as impressive as McCarthy’s.He went 125-77-2 in 13 seasons with the Packers, leading them to a Super Bowl title in 2010. However, Green Bay has struggled the past two seasons, missing the playoffs last year for the first time since 2008.The Packers are 4-7-1 this season, with McCarthy’s relationship with Rodgers becoming a weekly drama around the team.Tretter knows both men well, and said any of differences have been exaggerated.“That whole story line gets a little overblown,” Tretter said. “They are just two competitive people and I think they are both competitive in the same direction in that they both want the team to win. They just are very confident in what they think is best for the team to win, so I never really interpreted it as a bad thing.”Cleveland’s coaching gig has never looked so attractive.Rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield has shown signs of being the franchise QB the Browns have coveted for years, and any coach who comes to Cleveland will be required to further develop him.Tretter feels McCarthy would be ideal for Mayfield.“They would do great, he said. “He started working with Aaron when Aaron was a rookie, too, and Aaron’s developed into a hell of a player, so I think that relationship would be fine. I see a lot of similarities between Aaron and Baker personality-wise, competitiveness Tyrod Taylor Jersey , and that’s all the things that Aaron came in with, too, when he was a young player, so I think they’d work well together.”NOTES: S Denzel Ward remains in concussion protocol after getting hurt in Sunday’s loss to Houston. … DL Larry Ogunjobi (biceps) said he doesn’t think his injury is serious. Williams said Ogunjobi was still undergoing tests. … The Browns did not put a claim on former Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt, waived Saturday after a video showed him shoving and kicking a woman at a Cleveland hotel. Today, we reveal players 55 through 51, a group that includes several top backups including a potential No. 2 quarterback.55: Adam Pankey, OLSince arriving in Green Bay as an undrafted free agent in 2017, Adam Pankey has ping ponged between the 53-man roster and practice squad. His size and positional versatility remain his strongest traits and provide him with a path towards a roster spot this upcoming season. At the same time, he trails much of his competition in terms of athleticism and hasn’t developed to the point where the coaches feel comfortable regularly activating him on game days. The arrival of Matt LaFleur and the new coaching staff give Pankey a fresh start. If the third-year man can show improvement, perhaps he can vault several backups and become one of the seven or so offensive linemen active each week. Pankey will have to overcome his shortcomings as an athlete, a problem that appears greater in LaFleur’s offense than in that of his predecessor.54: Tim Boyle, QBUndrafted rookie quarterbacks face considerable challenges in the NFL. Most don’t receive enough repetitions during training camp and the preseason to adequately demonstrate their abilities to the coaching staff and front office, and even the lucky few that do must work alongside back-of-the-roster talent. As a consequence, most of those signal-callers will find themselves without a job come the September’s final cuts.In 2018, Tim Boyle went undrafted following a mediocre collegiate career that included stops at Connecticut and Eastern Kentucky. He joined a Packers roster that included three other quarterbacks: two-time MVP Aaron Rodgers https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Marcedes-Lewis-Jersey , former draft pick Brett Hundley, and then-recent acquisition DeShone Kizer. Accordingly, the odds suggested Boyle would most likely wash out of Green Bay and perhaps the league as a whole.Instead, Boyle became the rare third passer retained on the Packers’ season-opening active roster. Boyle’s strong arm and athleticism made him arguably the team’s most impressive quarterback after Rodgers during the preseason. That, along with Green Bay’s experience of losing Taysom Hill during final cuts a year earlier, convinced general manager Brian Gutekunst not to risk Boyle on waivers. This time around, Boyle will enter training camp on more even footing with the other backup candidates and, with a year of experience under his belt, should come better equipped to internalize an NFL offense.53: Alex Light, OLAnother undrafted holdover from last year’s roster, Alex Light saw limited action in 2018 as he continued to develop his craft. The 6-foot-5, 309 offensive lineman out of Richmond can play multiple positions and fill in on special teams and possesses above-average athleticism, a combination that puts him in strong position to make another run at the roster in 2019.Though the Packers could open up both guard spots to competition, Light seems unlikely to force his way into either position battle. Lane Taylor and offseason acquisitions Billy Turner and Elgton Jenkins will likely produce the two starters with the third laying claim to the top inside backup job. Still https://www.thepackersfanshop.com , Light’s ability to play tackle could warrant a long look for a game-day reserve role.52: Cole Madison, OLWhen the Packers selected Cole Madison in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, they anticipated the rookie offensive lineman competing for the open job at right guard. Instead, Madison left the team following rookie minicamp to deal with some personal issues stemming from the suicide of one of his former college teammates. Madison sat out the entire season, leaving the team and many others to assume he had walked away from football for good.Instead, Madison surprisingly reported to the Packers’ offseason workouts before last month’s draft. Though a year away from the sport could negatively affect Madison’s game, the team remains intrigued by his potential. He should compete for a roster spot immediately and, if he impresses during training camp and the preseason, Madison might win one of the top backup jobs along the offensive line.51: Ka’Dar Hollman, CBBefore Ka’Dar Hollman became a standout corner at Toledo, he unloaded trucks and worked in a bread factory while trying to attract interest from college programs. His hard work eventually paid off, with Hollman becoming a sixth-round pick last month. The Packers will lean heavily on Jaire Alexander, Josh Jackson, Kevin King Green Bay Packers Customized Jerseys , and Tramon Williams as their top cornerbacks this season, at least until injuries intervene. Any other player at the position will have to earn their job by contributing on special teams. Hollman’s athletic tools (73rd percentile in SPARQ) profile well to kick coverages and other such roles, giving the team something to use immediately as well as corner talent to develop in the long term. As the calendar ticks closer and closer to Super Bowl Sunday, Green Bay Packers fans and media continue to look ahead towards the start of free agency in March. The Packers have eleven players set to become unrestricted free agents, plus a handful more who will be restricted or exclusive-rights free agents as well.Several of those players will be back, particularly those in the earlier stages of free agency. Geronimo Allison, for example, will almost certainly return on a RFA deal. Lucas Patrick and Justin McCray, for all the Packers struggles at guard, are ERFAs and should return as well. The tenured veterans are where the biggest questions lie, and it’s unlikely that many — if any — of them will draw big contracts. Cornerback Bashaud Breeland tops our priority list, but there are reasons to think that a few of the other vets may return on short-term deals. As for outside free agents, one of the common positions that has been discussed is at slot receiver. However, one Packers writer suggests that a good option might already be on the roster in the form of a certain bearded local product. Maybe we can just skip the speculation about Cole Beasley and Jamison Crowder all together if the Packers really like what they have in Jake Kumerow? Green Bay will need an infusion of talent in free agency one way or another. Now it’s up to Brian Gutekunst to determine where he can get the best values and invest accordingly.Packers could let most (or even all) of their free agents walk - ESPNAs we've said here at APC Green Bay Packers T-Shirts , Bashaud Breeland should be priority number one for Brian Gutekunst when it comes to re-signing the Packers' own free agents.Jake Ryan preaching patience with recovery ongoing, future unclear | Packers.comRyan missed out on his contract year thanks to a torn ACL, which may result in him having to take a one-year deal in 2019. That’s a theory that gets an examination here, as Kumerow never really got much of a chance to show his abilities in the regular season.Davante Adams: Packers' offense will be 'new-school' under new coach - ESPNAdams spoke once again about LaFleur's offense, and he sounds excited; he will absolutely be a featured weapon this season, and it looks like the new head coach plans to move him around inside and outside to set up better matchups for the elite receiver.Young coach, elite QB pairing could be challenge for Packers' LaFleur | Milwaukee Journal SentinelIt's rare for such a young coach to come in and work with an older, MVP-caliber quarterback. Each week https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Anthony-Walker-Jersey , I have looked to breakdown two of the best or worst plays (or situations) from the previous game, but I’ll be listening to Stampede Blue to choose which plays should given a closer look as I hope to explain what happened in greater detail than the broadcasters can. Often you’ll hear “how did that guy get so open?” and I hope to be able to answer that question for Colts fans this season.Week 12 was an ugly win, but a win all the same. It’s often said that good teams find ways to win those ugly games rife with mistakes and bad breaks. The offensive line gave up more pressure than it had in weeks and the Dolphins responded by keeping pace and entering the fourth quarter with a lead, something I know I didn’t expect. There were a lot of big plays to look at from this game and the two winners, somewhat surprisingly were the second quarter interceptions from Andrew Luck and Andrew Luck’s amazing fourth quarter play, escaping pressure and hitting Chester Rogers, which set up the game winner. I’m also going to take a look at Kenyan Drake’s 14 yard touchdown run, it didn’t win but I want to take a look and write about it and since this is my article, I’ll do what I want. Because no one voted for it I’ll open with this play and we’ll eventually get to Luck’s amazing play. This play is difficult to break down because I’m not positive what everyone’s gap responsibilities are, it isn’t obvious and I am in no way sure that what I’m about to tell you is accurate. With that said this is what I believe the gap assignments were on this play:In theory this would be great. If everyone fills every gap, Drake has no where to run. The problem is that tight end works his way back across the line in this split zone run. That means that the gap that used to exist between he and the left tackle, isn’t there. That’s just the edge now. So Darius Leonard is responsible for setting the edge, which he does well, Anthony Walker believes he’s responsible for the “c” gap between the tackle and tight end. He wasn’t able to see over the line and recognize that the tight end was coming back across the formation and the gap he was going to fill is now being filled by Leonard. Had he recognized it, he would have most likely stayed home to fill the gap that the flowing tight end was creating. The only reason I’m not comfortable saying that this is absolutely accurate is because it means that Kenny Moore, all 185 pounds of him is responsible for filling the “b” gap. Generally speaking, that’s a bad idea. I understand that given the coverage shell (cover 2 from the safeties) there weren’t a lot of good ways to fill that gap with someone more well equipped to take on blockers while still matching up with the offense’s personnel, but I almost don’t want to believe that was actually the plan on this play. Kenny Moore has been a great find at corner, but this ain’t it. I don’t believe this was a huge mistake by any one player as much as it was a well timed play call from an advantageous personnel grouping. You would have liked to see Walker recognize the tight end, but he’s human and he’s been a nice surprise, vastly outplaying his draft position. Luck’s Interceptions:For those of you that enjoyed the doodling I did above https://www.coltsfanshop.com , just wait for what you’re about to see below. I can tell you exactly why Andrew Luck threw this interception; the Dolphins disguised their coverage in a really simple but effective way. Here’s what happens:The Dolphins come out in a man to man look with two safeties playing deep zones covering half of the field, also known as man cover two (or more simply, man-two) the Colts come out and run two receivers down the middle of the field, which is meant to stress the two deep safeties. Hilton’s deep-in combined with those two routes in the middle of the field is designed to get someone open against this coverage. The problem was that while Andrew Luck got a man cover two look, he didn’t know that the safety and cornerback on his right weren’t playing a traditional man-two. Traditionally the corner will stay with the receiver while the safety drops to his deep half. Instead, at the snap the safety comes up to cover the receiver running the five yard dig, while the cornerback drops to take the deep zone. It’s a simple change. There’s nothing complicated about it. Two guys just switched roles but it was enough to fool Andrew Luck. I can’t be too upset, Luck believed the Dolphins had busted their coverage and after the Jags game the week before where he saw busted coverage after busted coverage, he took his shot when he saw yet another bust, except that it wasn’t. It was a subtle change but a good play design called against the perfect offensive play to trick Luck into throwing a pick. This interception is much easier to explain; the Colts needed to move the ball down the field quickly. Andrew Luck and T.Y. Hilton have great chemistry. T.Y. Hilton is easily the Colts best receiver. Translation: Andrew Luck forces a pass to his favorite target who was blanketed by great coverage. He shouldn’t have thrown this ball but he had one-on-one coverage and trusted his receiver to go make a play. The problem is that the pass he threw didn’t allow Hilton any ability to make the play. This was just a bad pass. Andrew Luck’s amazing play:I’m giving you both angles because there are two aspects of this play that are impressive. The first is the route Chester Rogers runs. Okay, so its not really the route as much as it’s the fact that he had the awareness to feel that if he dropped just a little deeper and towards the sideline he would give Andrew Luck enough room to fit a pass between the defenders. We learned earlier in the week that Rogers wasn’t even in the progressions for this play. He knew he was essentially a decoy, yet he had the presence of mind to get open when the play broke down. Luck made a great play and throw, but Chester Rogers got open. This angle shows just how close Andrew Luck was to getting sacked. Number 93, Akeem Spence runs into Luck, off balance and Luck glances off, regained his balance, got his eyes downfield and got off a beautiful pass. There aren’t a lot of quarterbacks in the league who make this play. It’s a great time to be a Colts fan. The Indianapolis Colts have made this season quite interesting, winning their last four to pull into a tie for the final wildcard spot. The offense is clicking on all cylinders and the defense has made key plays to get big wins. Players such as Darius Leonard, Kenny Moore, and even Margus Hunt— earlier in the season at least— have led the way on this defense. One player who everyone seems to have forgotten about is Jabaal Sheard.Sheard was an absolute star last season for the Colts, in spite of his sack numbers. In 2017 Indianapolis Colts Customized Jerseys , Sheard only managed 5.5 sacks — a number that he has already hit this season— but he was top five in the NFL in run stops for edge defenders and ninth in total pressures. Despite the sack numbers, his all around edge play was pretty stellar. This year though, there seems to be less talk about Sheard— likely due to the deserved hype of Leonard on defense. Sheard has been a very important piece in a defense that has vastly improved from a year ago. The Colts are a top ten defense against the run this season, allowing only 3.9 yards per rush. The Colts are also in the top half of the league in sacks this season with 26 on the year. Sheard is a big part of both those statistics. In this film room, I will show you all that despite not hearing his name as much this season, Sheard is still the same dominant player that he was last year. Let’s jump into the film so you can see what I’m talking about.PositivesRun DefenseSheard is one of the top run defenders in all of football. He excels at reading offenses and shooting gaps to stop runners in the backfield. When blocked one-on-one, Sheard is typically too quick for linemen as he is able to blow by them for the stop. He is very disciplined but when he is left unblocked or he sees an opening, he won’t hesitate to exploit it. He has 10 tackles for a loss this season which is already a career high.In this first clip, Sheard is initially lined up as the end in base defense. He then moves inside with the tight end motioning across the line of scrimmage, making a perceived mismatch with a bigger guard against a smaller end player. Sheard is way too quick off of the line for guard Josh Kline and beats him to the spot. Sheard expertly swipes away Kline’s hands and gets free from the block. He is then able to make a tackle in open space against a pretty strong runner in Derrick Henry. The next clip is another great overall play by Sheard. The Redskins are running a sweep to Sheard’s side with the tight end coming to down block him out of the play. Sheard’s initial assignment appears to be to shoot inside, as his first step is more towards the center. He is able to adjust when he sees the sweep and effortlessly tosses tight end Jeremy Sprinkle aside. He shoots through the pulling lineman and makes the play on Adrian Peterson in the backfield. This is a great, disruptive play from the veteran. Our next clip shows Sheard fighting through traffic to get the stop. He gets doubled by the right tackle and tight end on a dive up the middle. Sheard is able to toss the tackle aside and fight inside through tight end Charles Clay’s block. He loses his balance but a great job of latching onto the running back and holding on for the tackle for a loss.One-on-OneSheard is nearly unblockable one-on-one, especially by average offensive linemen. His quickness and burst are really hard to counter and he isn’t afraid to bull rush to keep the line off balance and drive his opponent into the quarterback’s lap. He is very good on the edge one-on-one but excels against guards. His combination of hand usage and speed are too much for bigger guards. On this play, Sheard disrespects Titan’s center Ben Jones. He stunts inside and gets a one-on-one look with the center. Before engaging, Sheard is able to swat away his hands and blow past him for the sack. Jones ends up on the ground after barely laying a hand on Sheard. Just a crazy athletic play to make a starting center look foolish. Our next clips highlights Sheard taking advantage of guard Josh Kline— who is actually having a pretty solid season. Sheard starts with excellent burst which allows him to get to the guard before he is fully set. He then swipes away Kline’s hands and drives up field toward the quarterback. Kline is left grabbing for air and dives at Sheard as he blows by. The following clip is probably the most impressive, despite not resulting in a sack. While we find that Sheard struggles against top tackles, he gets the best of Morgan Moses on this play. He uses his speed and burst to get inside of Moses, who has no help. Although Moses slows him down a bit, Sheard won at the snap with his quickness. He got into the face of Alex Smith to force the incompletion. Gap ShootingThe Colts’ defensive scheme relies heavily on gap shooting defensive linemen. They ask their players to do a lot of work through twists and stunts, and to contain the run on their way up field. Sheard is excellent in this area. He has the quickness and ability to gain leverage to be disruptive when firing through gaps.Even on passing plays, Sheard can be disruptive shooting gaps. In this clip Indianapolis Colts T-Shirts , Sheard is performing an inside stunt with defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway. The Redskins fail to properly communicate. As a result, Moses is left alone to keep up with Sheard, who is stunting inside. Sheard is able to get up field before Moses can wrestle control of the block, and he ends up with a big sack. This next rep is particularly impressive. The Eagles are performing an inside trap where the right guard pulls to block the left end and the rest of the line blocks down. Sheard notices the concept and shoots through the gap the right guard has vacated. He beats All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson to the spot and make the big tackle for a loss. When Sheard is firing through gaps and not focused on contain, he can run past any lineman in this league. The final clip may not look like a positive to most people, but this is a perfectly executed stunt as All-Pro Center Jason Kelce gets too caught up with the defensive tackle to notice Sheard. Sheard flies past Kelce as he grabs for air and has a free shot at the sack on Carson Wentz. You would like to see Sheard finish this play but to have the speed and quickness to get in that situation is impressive. He also forces Wentz to leave the pocket, which is a win.NegativesConsistency vs Top TacklesSheard was one of the better edge players in football last season. So, naturally, I expected him to take the next step into stardom this year with a new scheme that supports his abilities. While he has played very well, he hasn’t really taken a big step forward. To be considered one of the better edge players in football, Sheard needs more consistency against top tackles. He struggles to make as many plays when he is in these situations. This first clip is against Morgan Moses. I know that Sheard showed some nice inside moves against Moses on stunts but he was relatively quiet in one-on-one attempts on the edge. I don’t expect him to dominate the entire game but I’d like to see more consistency against these players. This is the type of rep that happened too frequently against the Redskins. Our next clip shows Sheard against Lane Johnson again. This is in a two minute drill towards the end of the half. Sheard should be pinning his ears back and attacking but he gets washed out easily by Johnson. I don’t need him dominating every good tackle in football, but to take the next step in his career, he needs to perform better against top competition.Strength/BalanceThis is a tad nit picky but I it bears addressing. There are too many plays where Sheard ends up on the ground or completely out of the play by little things. I don’t know if it is a strength or balance issue, or reflects inconsistent effort but it stands out. In the following clip, Sheard gets tossed aside by Moses. In the second clip he is pushed around by tight end in Charles Clay. This isn’t always prevalent but these plays litter Sheard’s film and need to go away.AnalysisJabaal Sheard is a very important piece on a young, improving defense. He is a stout run defender and excels often wins against one-on-one blocks or by shooting gaps. He has a few areas that need work his body of work tells me that he is a well above average defensive end in this league.Sheard deserves more credit and recognition for his play. Guys like Kenny Moore, Darius Leonard, and Anthony Walker have been excellent surprises but Sheard’s has continued his steady play from a year ago and he is definitely one of the better defenders on this team. I don’t know what his role will be moving forward but he is currently a valuable piece on a team looking to make the playoffs.Closing ThoughtsI’d like to conclude this article by giving a little bit of thanks our readers. I have been writing/ podcasting about football for years and I have never encountered a fan base so excited and passionate as the one on Stampede Blue. I love writing these Film Room pieces. Seeing the positive feedback in the comment sections truly make it worth while. So, thank you for your continued support. I hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving with friends and family and look forward to rooting for the Colts to crush the Dolphins this Sunday. Go Colts!

I started to wonder whether Jennings’ route tree were a krummholz.Jennings was only intermittently on the field. He seemed to be behind both David Sills and Marcus Simms on the depth chart. Sills was the Mountaineer’s clear number one receiver. Simms suffered a concussion partway through the first quarter. Yet Jennings continued to spend a lot of time on the sideline and when he did see the field, it was as a decoy.Early in the second corner Will Grier targeted Jennings and Jennings scored a touchdown. But Sills committed offensive pass interference and the play was called back. Apart from seeing Jennings turn his krummholz into a flag tree—he ran a slurvey out-and-up—what little I could glean from this illegal play was not terribly heartening. This balletic move by Jennings was the culmination of an awful lot of rising action for a ten yard pass to a wide open receiver.Easy receptions should be accomplished easily, I think. Feats of athleticism in service of what, thanks to a little cheating, was essentially pitch and catch, do not excite me. Now I may conclude my weekly column. Jennings was buried on the depth chart. Jennings turned a wide open reception into such a twisting, turning ordeal that he failed even to get two feet down. Jennings, on the next drive, ran a crossing route which lazily bobbed twice and intersected with an official. Nothing else of interest happened this game. Boo-urns. Boo-urns. I was saying Boo-urns. Oh wait.Jennings received for 225 yards and two touchdowns. Right. This play is simple and filthy and does not require a great deal of analysis. Will Grier, who looks both like the fusion of Mac and Baker Mayfield () and a promising quarterback prospect, was able to get a good pass off right before taking a hit. And Jennings shed Brendan Radley-Hiles with the very smallest of jukes—not even a euro step but a single false step diagonally in.It’s hard to capture in a still. But to me it’s a testament to the value of deep speed. The threat that Jennings might plant and cut into a post, and thus run right past Radley-Hiles, is so dangerous that even a very subtle move stops Radley-Hiles from maintaining his deep cushion. The fact that Jennings can run past Radley-Hiles turned a single false step into totally blown defense.Radley-Hiles was a five-star recruit and is listed as running anywhere between a 4.32 and a 4.55 40. Those are NFL-caliber numbers for a safety. The throw came in pretty flat George Fant Color Rush Jersey , and Jennings had to wait for it to arrive. Luckily, between one second and another, he gave himself and his quarterback three yards of cushion. He slows to not overrun the pass without breaking stride. He reaches behind his momentum without breaking stride. He turns back up field and his center of gravity shifts a bit too far over his feet, but he runs himself upright, barely losing speed. It is good tape, I think. Let us see a bit more of that.Outside linebacker Caleb Kelly should not be matched against Jennings.Apart from the mismatched assignment, Kelly reacts slowly, and so this is more a busted coverage than an achievement by Jennings. That said, a couple fun things happen.Jennings turns his go route into something of a post. Grier changed the play pre-snap, and Jennings was savvy to his quarterback’s read. That results in Jennings angling in toward the space created by the split safeties.Safety Delarrin Turner-Yell (#32) works a good angle of intercept and begins to tackle Jennings at the 15-yard line.Begins, mind you.Jennings doesn’t score.Three minutes later he would.Free release.Subtle plant out followed by skinny-post-like in cut.And the kind of second gear which makes defensive backs trip over their own feet. The Sooners fielded one of the worst defenses in FBS, but they were merely mediocre at defending “explosive” plays. Hakeem Butler nailed them for 5, 174 and 2 touchdowns. Jalen Hurd: 9 Rashaad Penny Color Rush Jersey , 104, and 1. Some secondaries were destined to appear on the mix tape of opposing wide receivers. It’s good to see Jennings do well. We won’t soon know what that means for his pro career.Jennings worked mostly from the slot but he’s built like a flanker. It does not seem to me that he will have the necessary agility to be a slot receiver. He gets a lot of separation from relatively subtle moves, and I think that’s a good sign. It means he’s deceptive. It means at least the Sooners defensive backs were scared of his deep speed. He’s quick off the blocks and he has separation speed from a full stride. He seems to track the ball well, but there seems to be an occasional disconnect between his eyes and his hands. Passes eat him up, sometimes. Sometimes he suffers an unprovoked drop. Who doesn’t? But it’s something to watch. Defenders will be closer; even in the preseason. How will Jennings react when he begins to catch the ball and the closing defender is not 0.2 seconds away, or whatever, but 0.1 seconds away? Can he continue to thrive depending on a route tree that is half krummholz and half lodgepole pine? Or maybe that was just a function of Dana Holgorsen’s Air Raid offense. Whatever the case, Jennings is not Doug Baldwin or anything like Doug Baldwin. His greatest talent is his deep speed. He’s not going to put anyone on skates with his crossover moves. If he is to succeed, he must amplify the impact of his subtle moves through the threat of his deep speed. I don’t foresee him carving up the middle. I don’t expect him to gut out a tough reception to move the sticks—at least not as a primary responsibility. Which is to say, guys don’t really ever replace other guys. No one will replace Baldwin, and if Seattle really did intend to replace Baldwin with Jennings, it would be a tremendous mis-evaluation, I think. But Jennings has his own game Doug Baldwin Color Rush Jersey , his own set of dazzling tools and his own position to define. For now we wait and wonder which safety will be chasing Jennings this August, this September, if any. K.J. Prior to the 2018 season Josh Jones Color Rush Jersey , the Los Angeles Rams probably had their games against the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings circled on their calendar as some of the biggest contests of the season. And both were highly competitive, with the Rams winning 38-31 over the Vikings and 29-27 over the Packers. However, it’s this week instead that the Rams face the leaders of the NFC North, as they travel to Chicago to play the Bears on Sunday Night Football. The NFL certainly got this one right on the schedule, as the two teams have a combined record of 19-5. It should be fun to see how veteran defensive coordinators Vic Fangio and Wade Phillips scheme against the offenses that Sean McVay and Matt Nagy run.Earlier today, the Packers will face the Falcons in the early time slot, in a matchup of two underachieving teams. For all the excitement over his modern concepts and background coaching with the league’s most gifted offensive minds, the “newness” of it doesn’t mean the Green Bay Packers will line up with four receivers and a back out of an empty set in shotgun every play.In fact, quite the opposite. LaFleur coached quarterbacks on the 2016 Falcons team that put together one of the great offensive seasons of recent vintage. They played two or fewer receivers on 61% of their snaps, yet they were so efficient that Matt Ryan won the MVP and Atlanta put up nearly 34 points per game, easily the best in the league that season. Julio Jones, a talented duo of running backs and a versatile H-back allowed the LaFleur and Kyle Shanahan offense to play that way, but it’s where this offensive structure really shines. They use traditional personnel to create mismatches and angles with defenses in base. On the flip side, Sean McVay (another coach with whom LaFleur worked) can run so effectively in part because he plays almost exclusively in 11 personnel with three receivers, forcing the defense to play smaller. Unlike McCarthy, who often telegraphed playcalls with personnel and formation, this offense flips that idea on its head, actively working against type and tendency. For example, the Falcons played with two tight ends on 20% of plays, but were successful on 59% of those plays, the best rate in the league that season according to Sharp Football Stats. (For an explanation of success rate, go to this site.) That success rate jumped to 63% when throwing out of that formation Jason Spriggs Jersey , with a passer rating of 132.6. In other words, Atlanta took a formation generally regarded as a run formation, and found outstanding success throwing the ball out of it. This is working against tendencies and type in the NFL. When LaFleur became the offensive coordinator of the Rams the following season, he brought that success in 12 personnel with him. Los Angeles led the league in success rate with two tight ends, and even bested Atlanta’s success rate at 60%. When they threw in those situations, Jared Goff’s passer rating soared above 122. It’s likely not a coincidence LaFleur’s Titans team used two tight ends even more often than the Rams and Falcons had when he was there: he saw the value of creating matchup advantages against traditional defensive personnel. Most NFL teams go small to force defenses to adjust. But with a well-designed play, the advantage a capable receiving running back or tight end has against a linebacker is much greater than the average slot receiver has against an extra cornerback or safety. For fans who aren’t sure why the Packers wanted to keep Jimmy Graham, start here. The Packers will likely spend much more time with two tight ends on the field than they did last year, and much fewer with three or more receivers. In fact, the Titans played with two or fewer receivers last season 56% of the time. Part of that could be the guys they had, but the Falcons had talent at receiver past Julio Jones and still chose to play big. Reduce the need to add receivers in the offseason, fortify the tight end position in the draft, particularly with someone who can block, and this offense will take shape. Given the learning curve with young right ends—the position is widely considered among the most difficult to maser early on in the NFL—bringing back a capable blocker like Marcedes Lewis to go with Graham makes good sense for the Packers. Two tight end sets aren’t the only way to play big and provide an offense with matchup advantages using traditional player groupings. Last season, the Titans led the league in success rate with two running backs and two receivers on the field, what we call 21 personnel. They were successful 69% of the time, a pretty nice clip if you ask David Bakhtiari. It just so happens that two-back sets, whether a fullback and a running back or simply two running backs Mike Daniels Color Rush Jersey , were a preferred formation for that Falcons team as well. Atlanta ran 30% of their plays from it, their second-most used grouping, and also led the league in success rate. For the Packers, LaFleur could put Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams on the field at the same time (this is where someone like Ty Montgomery would have been extremely valuable), particularly with Williams skill as a blocker. They could also decide to invest in a pass-catching back in free agency or the draft to allow them to play multiple running backs who can line up wide and catch passes. This could also presage a return of the fullback in Green Bay. **Kuuuuuuuhhhhnnnnnn** Danny Vitale has outstanding physical tools. Brian Gutekunst may also look to the draft for an H-back type, one of the reasons so many fans are agitating for Iowa star T.J. Hockenson in the first round. There’s a chance he can be what Kyle Juszczyk was as a versatile blocker and receiver, plus having the skill to split out wide like Austin Hooper for those Falcons teams. LaFleur isn’t bringing back the 2011 Packers sets with five wide and guys who can beat you everywhere. That was a unique situation given an incredible run of drafting by Ted Thompson. But don’t forget, that team often used a full-house backfield to keep linebackers on the field and take deep shots off play action with Jordy Nelson. That part of the ‘11 offense will be back in force. We can’t look at LaFleur’s past and make a one-for-one comparison to what he’ll do in Green Bay. The players are different. The situation is different. The quarterback is importantly different. He uses three-receiver sets more than Kyle Shanahan but far less than Sean McVay. He uses two-back sets more than McVay, but far less than Shanahan. How much of that was driven by the Titans’ personnel? We won’t know for sure until this team plays. But his past, and the offensive philosophy he brings, thrives on a particular type of matchup creation, utilizing tight ends and running backs to keep a defense guessing. That type of creative thinking had been sorely lacking under Mike McCarthy and, while this offense often won’t look “new” when it lines up, what happens next will keep defenses and fans on their toes.

one of the NFL’s hottest teams over the past couple months. They now find themselves in the thick of the AFC playoff hunt Jacoby Brissett Jersey , but they’ll first have to prove that they can take care of a team that they absolutely should handle at home.As they head into their Week 16 matchup with the New York Giants, the Colts are a bit nicked up yet again. Safety Clayton Geathers and linebacker Anthony Walker — two defenders who’ve been large parts of their recent success — were already listed as OUT with knee, and shoulder issues respectively.Aside from these two, Mark Glowinski will again sit as well as a result of his ankle injury, however, T.Y. Hilton will be active today after being listed as questionable and only participating in Friday’s practice as a limited participant.Additionally, with Zach Pascal and Dontrelle Inman have recovered enough to remain in the lineup which will keep rookie WR Daurice Fountain inactive after being brought up to the active roster in recent weeks. As for the Giants, they’ve got some real injury issues as well. They enter Week 16 with four being previously listed as OUT including Odell Beckham Jr. and Alec Ogletree. In terms of the game, this is good news for the Colts as they hope to take care of business, and find a way to earn themselves a WIld Card berth. One less weapon for a declining Eli Manning is a good thing, but the Colts will have to find a way to limit Saquon Barkley with a big piece of the middle of their defense on the shelf. Every week we reach out to the blog for the team we will be facing to ask a few questions about the team and give our fans a perspective that is outside of our own. This week, with the Titans on the schedule, I sent an email over to the folks at Music City Miracles to see about doing the same.I didn’t receive a response from them. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, so I’ll admit that I didn’t get them my questions quite as early in the week as I typically try to do. There are a plethora of reasons why they would not respond, and I think these 4 are the most likely. First, they may simply have missed my email. It happens. The spam folder is a sneaky beast. Second Reggie Wayne Color Rush Jersey , they could have received it, but just been too busy to respond. That seems less likely, because even if they hadn’t had time to actually trade questions, they could probably have sent along a, “No, sorry, we’re overloaded this week,” or something similar. Third, perhaps they were just wrapped up re-watching their drubbing of the Patriots on Game Pass and lost track of time. I could certainly sympathize if that were the case. Finally, they could be just incredibly petty and didn’t want to communicate with a Colts site. That certainly is a possibility. Truthfully, I have no idea what happened.Whatever the reason, I wanted to make sure you here at Stampede Blue were not deprived of some “insider” knowledge of the Titans before we face them. That’s when I reached out to my good friend Stephen Reed. You might not know it, but Stephen has connections to a lot of Titans fans who are totally real and definitely not just completely made up for the purposes of this story. He asked them my questions and these are the answers he got. I cannot stress enough that these are real Titans fans here, not complete fabrications based on caricatures of Titans fans. The view (at least from me) is that the Titans have been kept alive through a ton of adversity so far this season because they’ve been incredibly well coached. What is the identity that Mike Vrabel is trying to build for this team and what do fans think of the job he’s done so far?Look, Mike Vrabel is tough. He’s the toughest. We Titans fans saw that coach fight article Stampede Blue put up and couldn’t believe Vrabel wasn’t number one overall. Wait... he was number one? Darn right he is. We just assumed he wasn’t and never read past the title but commented like crazy on it in our fanposts on MCM. But Titans fans love him. He’s basically a beefier, sexier version of Bill Belichick and undoubtedly the best coach in the AFC South. There’s been serious consideration of putting up a statue for him based on his handsomeness and the fact he’ll lead the Titans to a dynasty that never ends. His ability to get this team through the slew of injuries they have suffered makes him worthy of Coach of the Year in and of itself.Losing one of the most underrated offensive players in the NFL in Delanie Walker had to have been a huge blow. Who on the Titans’ offense has stepped up to take over some of his production? This one is easy https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Rigoberto-Sanchez-Jersey , Marcus Mariota. He’s stepped up in a huge way. Way more than Andrew Luck. We’ve compared the two and Luck clearly isn’t back. It’s like he’s got a Peyton Manning noodle arm! Did you know Mariota can survive barrels of sharks while riding a surfboard? Luck can’t even ski right without getting hurt let alone with shark barrels being dumped on him. Mariota is probably the best QB in the AFC. Better than Luck, Brady, Mahomes and even Brock Osweiller. If the league weren’t completely biased against the Titans, they’d be talking about how Mariota is an elite talent in this league. The Titans have done an incredible job this season on the defensive side of the ball. What would you say is the weakest point of this defense? The Titans defense really doesn’t have a weakness. But if I had to pick one, it’s they’re too versatile and tough, just like their coach, future hall of famer, Mike Vrabel. They make too many great plays so it’s really tough to pick a top play of the game. Certainly more than enough to deal with the Dolts and Andrew “Overrated” Luck. You want to throw the ball? Kevin Byard, Logan Ryan, and Kenny Vaccaro say hello. Feel like running the ball? Meet Jurrell Casey, the best defensive lineman in the NFL. Don’t even talk to me about Aaron Donald. Some people have said that Malcolm Butler can be a liability, but to that, I say how did he play against the Patriots last week? Scoreboard. In other words, the Dolts are screwed, because this is the best defense in the NFL. Who is the offensive player you think the Titans will use as a matchup issue against the Colts?Probably Taylor Lewan. He’s the best offensive lineman in the NFL. He literally gives out a primal scream that terrorizes opponents when he hits them not like that inexperienced rookie Quenton Nelson who fake screams and then edits his videos to sound more impressive. If Lewan and Nelson were to block each other, I’d take Lewan 11 out of 10 times. In fact Marlon Mack Jersey , I’d take Lewan over Ditka. If not him, it’ll definitely be a combination of Dion Lewis gashing this bush league Dolts defense and Corey Davis destroying whatever janitors they have playing cornerback this week. He has been called inconsistent, but that was before he torched the Patriots, and he’s going to go off on Sunday now that Mariota can feel his fingers again. How has the Titans’ rookie class looked so far this season? Is there anyone we might not know that Colts fans should be looking for on Sunday? The rookie class under the hunk of beautiful man meat Mike Vrabel has been tough, as expected. Even though the Titans had only four draft picks, three of them probably will be Pro Bowlers that will need to be replaced when the Titans crush the Patriots and Chiefs to get to the Super Bowl. Harold Landry would probably be a shoe in for Defensive Rookie of the Year if the league weren’t so biased against the Titans. Most of the Titans rookies are not known by Dolts fans since they don’t actually pay attention to real football. Playing Landry not in his natural position of 4-3 DE but as a stand up 3-4 OLB will probably surprise some of the more dumber fans. They lack the intelligence to see Vrabel’s master plan. He’s a true chess master while other coaches plays checkers. First round pick Rashaan Evans is pretty amazing, and even though he only has 14 solo tackles, he definitely looks like a hit for the team. It is probably too early to say he is a lock for the best linebacker from the 2018 draft, but it is likely true. As I already said, Harold Landry has been amazing as well. The Colts were dumb to pass on him, and they’ll get to see first hand how bad that decision was on Sunday when he owns their offensive line.I love Mike Vrabel with a burning passion from deep in my loi... Anyways, the Colts suck and probably won’t win another game all season and the Titans will win out. Write that down. Stone cold stunning Vrabel lock of the season.Thank you to the various Titans fans who again, are totally real and not at all made up, for helping contribute to this week’s Q&A.

NFL Divisional round Richard Sherman Color Rush Jersey , with only the New Orleans Saints in any sort of serious danger. After falling behind 14-0 to the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, they scored the game’s final 20 points and Marshon Lattimore effectively sealed the game at the two-minute warning by intercepting Nick Foles deep in Saints territory. It wasn’t Foles’ fault, as Alshon Jeffery had the ball go through his hands, but there wasn’t much reason to run another play before the two-minute warning and they hurried anyway. In the other three games, the Kansas City Chiefs took care of the Indianapolis Colts, the New England Patriots wrecked the Los Angeles Chargers, while the Rams ran over the Dallas Cowboys. Not a single top-ten defense by DVOA is in the final four, but your top four scoring offenses are here, and four of the top five offenses by DVOA. You think offense isn’t dominating, right now? Think again. Here’s the schedule for next week’s conference title games.Sunday, January 20th, 2019#2 Los Angeles Rams at #1 New Orleans Saints (-3.5) Duane Brown Color Rush Jersey , 12:05 PM PT on FOX#2 New England Patriots at #1 Kansas City Chiefs (-3.5), 3:40 PM PT on CBSI’m pulling for the Chiefs and Saints. You may feel differently. RENTON, Wash. (AP) — In consecutive weeks, the Seattle Seahawks produced consecutive 100-yard games rushing from running backs, which is a massive accomplishment considering the futility the team has faced for more than a season trying to run the ball.Adding to the novelty of the accomplishment: it was two different running backs reaching the century mark, and neither of which was rookie first-round pick Rashaad Penny.“We really needed to focus and establish that we could run the football and find our offensive line’s nature,” Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. “I think we’ve really tapped into that. That’s really important and it’s a long, long season.”Seattle’s promise throughout the offseason of returning to being a run-first offense has finally come to fruition in the past two weeks, and not surprisingly the Seahawks have won two straight. Two weeks ago against Dallas, Chris Carson rumbled for 102 yards in a 24-13 victory. He became the first Seahawks running back to reach the century mark after 22 straight regular season games without a back getting to the 100-yard mark. And last week at Arizona, veteran Mike Davis rushed 21 times for 101 yards and two touchdowns in the 20-17 win over the Cardinals. The last time the Seahawks had any running back rush for 100 yards in consecutive games was Weeks 10 and 11 of the 2014 season when Marshawn Lynch did it and Seattle was on its way to a second straight NFC championship and Super Bowl appearance.Yeah, it had been a while.“I think our emphasis has been to really make sure and get this knocked out and I didn’t feel like we got it done the first two weeks and if anything K.J. Wright Color Rush Jersey , we had maybe gone overboard,” Carroll said. “Carrying the ball thirty times gives you a chance to play really good football and that means you’re really committed and it’s clear. We’ll build from here.”Carson having a 100-yard game has been an expectation since this time last year when he was showing promise as a rookie before a season ending lower-leg injury. The surprise wasn’t Davis having that much success against the Cardinals, but rather the fact his carries seemed to come at the expense of Penny.Seattle spent a first-round pick on Penny for a reason, but those skills as a runner haven’t emerged yet. The rookie was slowed during training camp by a small hand fracture that left him only doing conditioning on the side and not getting a chance to take part in most of the preseason. Penny had 20 carries for 43 yards through the first three games, but finally showed some flash last week against the Cardinals with nine carries for 49 yards.“I’m just getting comfortable and being confident and I that is something that is slowly happening, especially after last week,” Penny said.Penny said the time on the sideline dealing with the hand injury and the subsequent surgery threw him off track and it’s taken about a quarter of the regular season to finally get back to where he was at the start of training camp. But that means accepting being in a rotation at running back for now. Carson is expected back this week against the Rams and Carroll said Davis will be given more opportunity after his performance last week.“I’m finally working at being back to who I was and being back into that form and shape of that guy who they drafted,” Penny said. “I can’t do it without the great running backs I’ve got in that room. They pick me up, everyone does.”NOTES: Seattle signed safety T.J. Green and veteran safety/linebacker Maurice Alexander, and promoted TE Darrell Daniels from the practice squad to fill three open roster spots. Green was a second-round pick of the Colts in 2016 and appeared in 31 games over two seasons. Alexander was in training camp with Seattle and was part of the final cuts. He brings the versatility of being able to play both safety and linebacker. … Carroll said LB K.J. Wright will not be back this week. Wright has been out since late August following knee surgery.

LAKE BUENA VISTA http://www.astrosfanproshop.com/authentic-justin-verlander-jersey , Fla. (AP) — Adam Duvall left Cincinnati and suddenly stopped hitting homers — and yes, he’s been well aware of the drought.“It feels like about five years, to be honest,” Duvall said. “When you’re used to driving the ball and hitting home runs, when you go that long without hitting a homer, you know it.”Duvall finally took a step in the right direction Sunday, homering twice for the Atlanta Braves in their 6-5 victory over the Miami Marlins. It’s only spring training, but for a lineup dealing with some early injury issues, any sign of a resurgence by Duvall would be quite welcome.Duvall surpassed 30 homers for the Reds in both 2016 and 2017, but he managed only 15 last year, hitting none after July 25, a few days before he was traded to Atlanta . He went 7 for 53 with the Braves, managing only one extra-base hit, and he didn’t play in the postseason for the NL East champions.“I kind of knew what he was capable of, really when we got him,” Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said. “He wasn’t having the greatest year, but I’d seen him before, the last couple years. He did a lot of work this offseason, they’ve been doing a lot of work right now. I’m going to continue giving him a lot of at-bats Jose Cruz Jr. Jersey , because he’s the kind of guy that can be a definite asset on your team if we can get him right.”The Braves were solid offensively last season, led by slugger Freddie Freeman and Rookie of the Year Ronald Acuna Jr. In the offseason, they signed Josh Donaldson to a $23 million deal for this year, hoping the slugger can recapture the form that helped him win MVP honors in 2015 while with Toronto. But Donaldson has dealt with hip, shoulder and calf issues in recent years, and he hasn’t played yet this spring.Shortstop Dansby Swanson, who had wrist surgery shortly after last season, hasn’t played either.Duvall was hitless in 10 spring at-bats before going deep in the second inning Sunday off Dan Straily. He homered again in the sixth.“It’s definitely good. That’s good, I think, for his confidence,” Snitker said. “As guys work hard, you like to see them get results, when they’re putting that time in.”Duvall has never had a high average or on-base percentage, and his final line was ugly last year — a .195 average in 138 games for the Reds and Braves. His walk rate actually improved, but his power dipped, and it’s hard to say how he’ll perform in 2019. He was eligible for arbitration, and Atlanta brought him back on a $2,875,000 salary for this year.“Not that I wanted to show anything — I just wanted to get back to being who I am Nolan Ryan Jersey ,” he said. “So that’s what we’re all working toward.”Playing time will be tough to come by for Duvall if he doesn’t hit. The Braves have outfielders Acuna, Ender Inciarte and Nick Markakis, all of whom made significant contributions last season. But Snitker sounds like he wants to give Duvall plenty of opportunities at the plate this spring, especially if he’s having success.“Any time you can hit two homers in a game, obviously you’re doing something right,” Duvall said. “I was excited about that, because hadn’t had much success early here in spring, so to do that, and really put some barrels and drive some balls, was rewarding.” (and even managed to score four)"WhiteFanposts FanpostsFanshotsSections AnalysisGame RecapsGamethreadsMinorsOffbeatFull ArchiveExclusives South Side Sox Hall of FameCard of the MonthDeep DiveDigitsFlashbackFranchise FactsKnow Your EnemyMost Essential White SoxRace to the BottomSix Pack of StatsSouth Side SnapSouth Side StumperSSS Literary SupplementSuper Stats PackThe Game I’ll Never ForgetTwitterpatingUnder the RadarView From the Other SideWhite Sox on SB Nation HomeStoriesScheduleRosterStatsWhite Sox on Yahoo! Fortunately, all you have to do to avoid excessive distress over Cactus League games is remember that last year the Sox went 16-12, a pace that would have won the AL Central, so there really is no carryover to the regular season. We hope. The big splat was against Cleveland http://www.astrosfanproshop.com/authentic-justin-verlander-jersey , an 11-0 slaughter where the highlight was Dylan Cease managing one workmanlike inning in his first outing of the year. He gave up two hits, but ran his two-year spring scoreless streak to 7 1鈦? innings.Jordan Stephens had an even better day, two innings of one-hit ball, with the hit erased in a double play. The other five Sox pitchers couldn’t get through without a run, with Bernardo Flores, Thyago Vieira, Donn Roach and Jordan Guerrero all really getting hammered, and Kodi Medeiros giving up a Carlos Santana solo shot.As the score would indicate, offense highlights were nonexistent at Cleveland — five singles, three walks, and only three at-bats with anyone in scoring position.Meanwhile, back home, the loss to a San Diego split squad was closer, at 7-4. Three of the Padres runs came off starter Lucas Giolito, but he really didn’t look bad — much of the damage came courtesy of the Sox’s trademark horrible defense. Jos茅 Abreu played matador on a grounder, and Wellington Castillo managed a passed ball and two throws to bases that looked like he was trying to toss souvenir t-shirts into the stands. Good thing we didn’t try to pick up any of the several well-regarded catcher free agents during the offseason.Among the rest of the pitchers, Jace Fry recovered from his disastrous last outing with a 1-2-3 inning, and Carson Fulmer had by far his best day of the spring, giving up one run on one hit Carlos Lee Jersey , striking out four, and surviving a line shot off his body with no apparent ill effects. And there was definite Eloy joy. Jim茅nez not only swatted a two-run, opposite-field homer, but made a great diving catch of a liner to his right. No doubt, once he works on his defense in Charlotte in April, he’ll make that catch look easier. There is no word on sending Castillo down to Charlotte to work on his defense, but there was a nice sign from possible future catcher Zack Collins, who raised his spring average to .364 with a two-run shot in the sixth. It’s a good thing the pitching staff and defense gave up at least two days’ worth of runs on Tuesday, because tomorrow is the White Sox’s first off-day of the spring. The club returns to action vs. the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday. After the game, the White Sox made five reassignments to minor league camp: Bernardo Flores, Jordan Guerrero, Nick Madrigal, Luis Gonz谩lez and Blake Rutherford. None are on the 40-man, and thus none of the designations come as a shock. The White Sox have 58 players remaining in major league camp: 29 pitchers, six catchers, 11 infielders and 12 outfielders.

WEST PALM BEACH http://www.bluejaysfanproshop.com/authentic-curtis-granderson-jersey , Fla. (AP) — In his third spring training start, Washington ace Max Scherzer wanted to try something different: batting.Nationals manager Dave Martinez could have used a designated hitter in Tuesday’s 8-4 loss to Boston, but instead wrote Scherzer’s name in the ninth spot on the lineup card.“He’s real big into the whole game, not just the pitching portion,” Martinez said. “He loves to hit, he loves to run the bases, he loves to play the game.”A .243 hitter last season, Scherzer fouled a pitch into his dugout and fouled another straight back in his lone plate appearance before watching the sixth pitch for a called third strike. The three-time Cy Young Award winner has taken batting practice since camp began and intends to hit for himself in each of his final three spring outings.“Hopefully get some situations where I can bunt and just work on that because that’s my No. 1 job, to make sure I move runners,” Scherzer said. “I saw last year how important it was.”On the mound, Scherzer delivered a mixed performance. After retiring the first nine batters in order, seven of the first eight batters in the fourth inning reached base, ending his afternoon.“I actually was happy in the fourth inning that I ran into some trouble and I had to try to pitch out of a jam,” Scherzer said. “I had to try to execute pitches out of the stretch when I’m tired.”Ultimately he surrendered five runs on five hits while striking out four in 3 1/3 innings. Martinez pulled Scherzer with one out and the bases loaded in the fourth after throwing 38 of 56 pitches for strikes.Scherzer wanted to pitch a little longer.“In my head I was trying to get my max pitch count to 60 or 65,” said Scherzer, who surrendered at least five runs only once last season. “I knew I wanted to try to face one more hitter, but Davey wanted to get a lefty-lefty match-up in there and get that look.”The inning before the Nats pulled Scherzer, Howie Kendrick left the game with a left hamstring strain after beating out an infield hit. The Nationals are considering sending Kendrick for an MRI exam in the coming days.“I don’t how severe it is right now Paul Molitor Jersey ,” Kendrick said. “Right when I felt it I tried to slow down as much as possible so I wouldn’t do any more damage. That’s all I can really tell you right now.”A 13-year veteran, Kendrick, 35, missed the final four months last season after tearing his right Achilles.“I’m thankful it wasn’t that but, yeah, now a hamstring,” Kendrick said. “I figure we can deal with that.” If the Orioles are lucky and good, some of their 2022 roster is starting out down in Delmarva."One of the mantras of general manager Mike Elias since taking over the Orioles has been: “We have to elevate the level of talent in the entire organization.” One big part of that means bringing in better prospects and players through the draft, trades, international signings, and free agent signings. Another big part is that they have to make the players who are already here into the best players that they can be.This week, I’ve been running through the starting rosters of the Triple-A Norfolk Tides, the Double-A Bowie Baysox, and the High-A Frederick Keys. Today comes the lowest of the full-season affiliates, the Delmarva Shorebirds. If there’s going to be a wave of talent hitting Baltimore three years down the road, that wave is going to start in Salisbury. What’s interesting about the Shorebirds is that Elias must have thought they were doing something right down there even before he arrived. Last year’s Shorebirds manager, hitting coach, and pitching coach were all promoted higher up the minor league ladder. For as much as the Orioles player development program under Dan Duquette was understandably slagged http://www.bluejaysfanproshop.com/authentic-curtis-granderson-jersey , the new regime didn’t sweep the deck immediately. That means a new set of coaches for this year’s Delmarva team. Manager Kyle Moore was the hitting coach in Frederick last year and now he’ll be running the whole show. So, what is Moore going to have to work with as the season begins?Orioles top 30 prospects on Delmarva rosterTop 30 prospects as rated by MLB Pipeline. The full break camp roster can be found here.RHP Grayson Rodriguez (5)RHP Blaine Knight (10)3B Jean Carlos Encarnacion (13)SS Cadyn Grenier (17)LHP Drew Rom (29)OF Robert Neustrom (30)These are the Orioles first five draft picks from last year’s draft, with Encarnacion, the best-regarded prospect the O’s received in the Kevin Gausman deal from Atlanta, thrown into the mix. Last June’s draftees mostly started out their careers in short-season baseball and will be getting their first taste of a full minor league season here in 2019.The Elias front office has no investment in these guys. If he thinks they’re bums, it’s not like he gets egg on his face for having drafted them or traded for them. He’s been complimentary but vague about the quality of prospects left behind by Duquette. Hopefully for the sake of the rebuild, the final Duquette draft wasn’t a bust.Rodriguez was the Orioles top pick last year at #11 overall. They chose him with other pitchers still on the board who were believed to be slightly better prospects by the draft-industrial complex. But this scouting report from MLB Pipeline sounds nice:Most people sound like future All-Stars in their MLB Pipeline scouting reports. We know that pitching development sucked under the Duquette regime. We might start to find out if Elias has a better program if his people are able to achieve some of that hoped-for progress on Rodriguez’s off-speed pitches.Knight was drafted out of the University of Arkansas. When you read about “durability concerns” in a guy’s profile, that’s often a euphemism for “overweight.” In Knight’s case it’s the opposite: He’s listed at 6’3” and 165 lbs. He only pitched in four games for Aberdeen after being drafted last year. It’ll be interesting to see how the Elias regime plans to bring him along.Encarnacion, who turned 21 in January, will be repeating the Low-A level this season. That’s never an exciting thing to hear about a prospect. With Encarnacion batting just .218/.240/.356 in 26 games after getting traded to the Orioles organization, the new guys might want to get more of a sense of what he’s capable of before pushing him higher. Maybe they want him to work on third base in a lower-pressure level, too: He had been a shortstop but is dropping down the defensive spectrum as his frame fills out.Grenier was part of the College World Series-winning Oregon State Beavers last season before joining the Orioles. He’s unique among this group of prospects in that the O’s had assigned him to Delmarva last year, rather than a short-season affiliate. He batted just .216/.297/.333 after joining the pro ranks, which probably explains why he’s not on Frederick to start the season. ESPN’s Keith Law writes of him: “A plus defender at short, but not a 70 (star level), so he’ll have to make more contact going forward to profile as a regular.”Rom, who is just 19, was plucked away from a University of Michigan commitment by the Orioles last June. He’s a crafty lefty waiting to happen Justin Smoak Jersey , if he’s crafty enough. The phrase “needs to repeat his delivery” is in his scouting report. The guys around before seemed incapable of getting prospects to do that. Again, O’s fans must place their hope that this new crew has a better way of doing things. The thing about having a top 30 prospects list is that even in a good system, the 30th-best prospect isn’t great, and the Orioles don’t have a good system. What that means for Robert Neustrom is that, at 22, he’s getting hit with the “old for the level” label by being in Low-A. All Neustrom can do to shake it is hit well enough that the Orioles have to promote him to Frederick, then hit well enough that the Orioles have to promote him to Bowie, and then, if he does that, hit well enough for a promotion to Norfolk or Baltimore. When you put it that way, it sounds easy. I wish him, the rest, and any Delmarva player who didn’t rate a mention the best. Maybe there’s a surprise prospect sitting there who we don’t even know about yet.**If things are going well with this group, the college-drafted players will find their way up to Frederick around the middle of the minor league seasons. If things aren’t going well, then the group of 2018 draftees will find themselves starting to be displaced by the 2019 Orioles draft class.

No, no...that can’t be right...can it?It can. The Cody Reed that struggled to throw strikes and miss bats over the previous two seasons has somehow managed to morph into a real, live reliever in his short stint with the Cincinnati Reds in 2018, even sporting a cromulent 3.50 K/BB and 1.22 WHIP. Of course, that’s come in just 14.2 IP Michael Lorenzen Jersey , so we’ll certainly allow your expectations to still be tempered for his start against the Milwaukee Brewers this afternoon.Look, it’s pretty evident that Reed getting another shot in the rotation is only partly from his own doing, and can easily be traced back to the failures of many of his peers when already given the same shot. Still, there just seems to be something about Reed this time around that seems to suggest that he’s something different, one part due to anger and frustration and another part due to surrendering to the flow. Whatever it is, let’s hope it’s out in full force today, since that’s what it will take to finally, mercifully retire Christian Yelich and friends. On an equally important note http://www.redsfanproshop.com/authentic-cliff-pennington-jersey , JOEY VOTTO IS BACK IN THE LINEUP! Now, the approval rating for Cora is still at 80 percent, which is fairly high, but given how this team has played after his decision to take everyone extremely slowly in spring training Reggie Jackson Jersey , things are going down. It’s not going to change any time soon without a major turnaround on the field, either. This percentage is down from 100 percent in the first two weeks and 88 percent last week. That’s not the direction you want to be heading.Meanwhile, in terms of overall confidence in the team, well, you can imagine it’s only getting worse. And this polling was done before the Yankees series, too. Right now, confidence among Red Sox fans is down to 64 percent. As with Cora, it was at 100 percent in weeks one and two before falling to 76 percent. It’s also tied with the mark among Yankeefans, but again this poll came before New York took both games of a two-game series this week. The National QuestionEvery week http://www.athleticsfanproshop.com/authentic-khris-davis-jersey , fans of every team are asked a national question, too, and this week’s was focused on the rise of extensions around the league. Ozzie Albies was in the news this past week for a particularly team-friendly deal. The question posed was who gets the better deal, the player or team. Obviously it’s the team, and it’s wild this percentage wasn’t even higher. Yes, it’s possible that the player burns out, but the team has more than enough money to make up for that and they get a huge bargain if the player even plays up to expectations. As Craig Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus said, teams are essentially insurance companies in this case. They’ll make enough of these deals that they can’t lose in the long-run. (AP) — Michael Pineda made his first start for the Minnesota Twins as he comes back from Tommy John surgery, allowing one hit in two innings during a 4-3 win over the Boston Red Sox on Friday. The 30-year-old right-hander struck out one and walked none, reaching 95 mph and throwing 18 strikes during a 26-pitch outing. He hasn’t pitched in the major leagues since July 5 George Springer Jersey , 2017, for the New York Yankees, and Cincinnati Reds medical director Dr. Timothy Kremchek operated that July 18. OAKLAND http://www.bluejaysfanproshop.com/authentic-curtis-granderson-jersey , Calif. (AP) — Representatives of the Oakland Athletics and Major League Baseball met Sunday with Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray, a day before the Oklahoma quarterback’s deadline to enter the NFL draft, a person with direct knowledge of the session said. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Sunday because the meeting was not made public. Oakland executives remained confident as recently as the baseball winter meetings last month in Las Vegas that Murray would report to spring training this year and pursue baseball. MLB joined the efforts to persuade the dual-sport star, sending someone from its marketing group to the meeting, the source said. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound Murray’s Sooners lost in a college football playoff semifinal Dec. 29 to eventual runner-up Alabama.Drafted last June in the first round as the ninth overall pick Aaron Loup Jersey , the outfielder signed with Oakland for $4.66 million. There was an agreement between the team and Murray that he would play football this year, then skip his senior season to begin his pro baseball career — and A’s manager Bob Melvin as well as executive Billy Beane and general manager David Forst closely followed Oklahoma football in 2018.“I can’t put it into words. Just thankful,” Murray said after the draft. “That’s a huge deal, the organization letting me do that.”Murray showed off his skills taking batting practice at the Coliseum in an A’s uniform back in June, greeted by “WELCOME TO OAKLAND” on the big scoreboard with his photo. Beane joked with super agent Scott Boras — who represents Murray — about the prized prospect committing to 15 years with the A’s, who reached the playoffs for the first time since 2014 before losing the AL wild-card game to the Yankees and the franchise is preparing to build a new ballpark near the popular Jack London Square neighborhood of the city. This past season for the Sooners Matt Adams Jersey , he completed 260 of 377 passes for 4,361 yards and 42 touchdowns with seven interceptions and a passer rating of 199.2. He also rushed for 1,001 yards and 12 TDs.“We’re big Oklahoma fans right now for sure,” Melvin said at the winter meetings. “It’s kind of tough to watch them scramble around a little bit sometimes, but it’s exciting.”

Tucker and free agent pitcher Joshua Payne have been suspended for 50 games each under baseball’s minor league drug program following second positive tests for drugs of abuse.Tucker Blake Parker Jersey , a 23-year-old left-hander, was 0-2 with an 18.69 ERA in three starts and one relief appearance last year for the Arizona Rookie League Angels. He was on the roster of rookie-level Orem of the Pioneer League. A 12th-round selection in the 2016 amateur draft, Tucker signed for a $100,000 bonus.Payne, a 24-year-old right-hander, was released Tuesday by the New York Mets‘ organization. He was 4-3 with a 4.39 ERA last year for Columbia of the Class A South Carolina League. There were 72 suspensions last year, plus 10 under the big league drug program. One might think that the St. Louis Cardinals are due for a fall after nine consecutive series wins.Don’t run that theory by first baseman and MVP candidate Matt Carpenter.“I don’t know why it shouldn’t last the rest of the year,” he said Sunday after a 12-3 win at Colorado capped a 5-1 road trip and made them 22-7 since July 27. “I don’t see why it couldn’t.”Article continues below ...Carpenter and St. Louis will get a chance to test that theory Tuesday night when they welcome the Pittsburgh Pirates for the opener of a three-game series in Busch Stadium. The Cardinals (72-58) own the National League’s first wild-card spot and sit four games behind the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central. They also have a home-heavy schedule in the season’s last five weeks, playing 19 of their final 31 games in front of friendly fans. They have just one road trip longer than three games for the year’s remainder. For a team that is 11-4 at home under interim manager Mike Shildt, the chance to spend most of the year’s remainder in familiar surroundings has to be an advantage. Then again, St. Louis fans were last heard turning Coors Field into Busch Stadium West in the last few innings on Sunday, even chanting “MVP” as Carpenter did a postgame interview on FS Midwest.“That was cool to hear the fans, especially as many as we had here today Michael Saunders Jersey ,” Carpenter said. “It was a neat experience.”Watching Jack Flaherty (7-6, 2.97 ERA) pitch has been a neat experience at times. The rookie right-hander, who takes the mound for the series opener, has received the endorsement of none other than Hall of Famer Bob Gibson, who probably likes how Flaherty works inside with purpose.Flaherty had everything going for him in his last start Wednesday night at the Los Angeles Dodgers, although he settled for a no-decision in a 3-1 Cardinals win. Flaherty took a no-hitter into the sixth inning for the third time this year before a Joc Pederson homer knee-capped that bid.In Flaherty’s last four starts, including a 2-1 win on Aug. 5 at Pittsburgh, he was allowed just 10 hits and two runs in 25 innings Ryan Goins Jersey , walking nine and whiffing 33.
